My wife is a nurse and she found out that a man she went to college with who had the same position as her makes about $4 more an hour than she does. There is no reason for this, and it is either determination or coincidence. When I tell people they are outraged that there hospital is discriminating against her...... however when I tell them that actually she is the one who made more than the man no one seems to care and I get a lecture about how people working the same position can be paid different and that is fine because of a variety of reasons. This is true but the fact that they react differently in each situation is troubling.

the part that is conveniently clipped off says of the 28% "10% can be explained by men and women doing different jobs", and "7% is because women are working fewer hours" and then highlights the 11% that remains unexplained.

Since their 28% pay gap evaporated almost instantly when mitigating factors were investigated, I fail to see why the remaining 7% can't also be assumed to have legitimate explanations.

The article literally lies in one sentence, takes it back in the next, and still expects you to believe them when they can't explain the remaining difrerence.

I wonder what the difference in hours worked is between male and female healthcare workers. A part-time CNA is going to make a lot less than a heart surgeon who works 50 hours a week.

Maybe I’m just not capitalist enough to see it, but I think I’d take a pay cut versus dying horribly as your lungs fill with fluid and your body shuts down.
