If the allegation is false (CBC News continues to investigate the claim) Trudeau doesn't really have the option, from a political perspective, to say so.

In the current climate, denying the claim is akin to saying, "She's lying," which is a taboo phrase for the leader of a government that has made believing women central to its approach to sexual misconduct allegations.

If the allegation is true, on the other hand, Trudeau can't simply explain, apologize and attempt to move on. It would look like he afforded himself leniency that he'd denied to members of his caucus who were accused of misconduct.

So the prime minister is stuck: he can't confirm or deny. As a result, his office opted for the most unsatisfactory of all possible responses, telling the National Post that Trudeau does not recall any "negative interactions" in Creston during that time. In other words, Canada's highest-profile women's rights advocate has been stricken by a convenient bout of amnesia.

Ha!

Poetic justice in action, it's just, err, poetic.

I love see Trudeau hoisted on his own petard.

[–]Razorbladekandyfan 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

i love how people put all misandry on him. Ignoring traditional gynocentrism and shit.

[–]omegaphallic[S] 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Excellent point, very excellent point, still you have to admit this is an entirely self inflicted injury.

For the record I'm not a rightwinger trying to score cheap points on the left, I JUST voted NDP in the Ontario election, just don't want you getting the wrong impression.

[–]Razorbladekandyfan 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Trudeau is no friend of men. The more important part is that if gynocentrism didn't paint men as potential rapists, he would have no way of implementing his anti-male feminist policies. Until that is dealt with, we have no chance of winning.

[–]Keenin455 14 points15 points16 points 8 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link

Well, he made his bed now it's time for him to lie in it.

EDIT: I noticed in the comments that people wouldn't want to wish this on him even though they disagreed with his approach. Well, thing is, it doesn't matter what THEY want. Unless Trudeau and others THEMSELVES see and experience how much damage its done, it won't be remedied.

Barbara Kay has written a lot about men's issues, and she says one of the biggest barriers to getting anything done is that men who haven't been through something horrible assume guys who have failed in some way or brought it on themselves and that such a thing wouldn't happen to them.

A lot of the guys I've talked to describe having reacted just that way when guys they knew got reamed in divorce court or whatever--must have been something he did, that shit doesn't happen unless you did something wrong--and then it happened to them and that was when they "got woke". One guy I talked to was tearing up describing how he went to the friend he'd shrugged off months before with a "you must have fucked up somehow," and told him he was right, and apologized for not being able or willing to see what was really going on. But it took being put in the same situation himself to wake up.

Exactly. It's like the questions never end until they find a way to make it 'your fault'.

How could you let her hit you?

Well if I stop her, it becomes a fight and I go to jail. Granting her yet more power and control over me.

Why didn't you just leave?

I did. The very first time she hit me. But I want to see me kid, so I have to maintain contact, and she regularly used that to get close to me.

Why didn't you fight for custody?

I did. For years. Judges care a lot less than you think about this stuff. Unless there was an arrest/conviction it didn't matter. So I had very little visitation time.

Why didn't you call the police?

I did. Dozens of times. Do you think female abusers aren't going to lie to the cops? In most cases I barely avoided arrest. Because they wanted to know why she was acting 'afraid'.

Why didn't you get an attorney?

I did. They told me that unmarried men start with zero parenting rights, and the best possible outcome is 50/50 by school age. Then proceeded to eat up my savings in court for years.

Huh, well you shouldn't have had a kid with someone like that.

Birth control sabotage

Don't stick your dick in crazy!

She was on meds when we started seeing each other and acted normal.

Welp you took the risk and had sex. This can happen.

Yep. You've got me there, you win. My fault.

The hardest part is the gendered standards. Feminists would hold all of society accountable for any instance of a woman being in an abusive relationship, even one that she chose and participated in an ongoing basis. A woman should be able to walk down the darkest/roughtest part of any city in total safety or all men are held in contempt. Society as a whole must end the problem of negative outcomes for women regardless of how poor their own choices. While men must own all negative outcomes. Regardless of how good their decisions, they must be accountable for anything bad that happens.

[–]planned_serendipity1 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep, classic male hyper-agency and female hypo-agency. Traditional gynocentric society supports and then feminism puts it on steroids.

[–]omegaphallic[S] 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This so much this. For whatever reason I was never like that, at least no where near that degree, I don't know why. I've never been married or had a serious interest in marriage, but I've always felt bad seeing good men ruined in divorce, or railroaded or abandoned in some way, even when I considered myself a liberal feminist before becoming an MRA. I have seen the pheomona you describe.

[–]mwobuddy 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

its because for over 2000 years the male has had ultimate, metaphysical moral responsibility for the world, even back when mortals were 'the playthings of the gods'.

After all, a person cannot be condemned to hell or any versions of hell unless they bear some real, ultimate responsibility for failing to live up to standards. At least it seems like this for the ancient greeks. Eternal punishment for hubris. Even Odysseus gave a prayer that his men, ostensibly good, brave men, not find tartarus too painful. Even men 'on the right side' should suffer in the afterlife, for at least a time.

In contrast, the ancient greeks claimed that women were amoral and more like storms, bearing little responsibility in themselves, and thus men were responsible for their actions. You remember the practice of townspeople publicly shaming men who got beaten by their wives in more recent times. "how could he allow her to do that to him"? But if he punches her to deal with it, then its "how could he beat his wife?".

Damned if you do or if you don't. Kind of like Odysseus' men.

When men get punched by women, we still ask "what must he have done" as if he'd just groped her.

But it took being put in the same situation himself to wake up.

People in general seem to have a frustrating inability to extrapolate from anything outside their immediate, momentary experience.

[–]mwobuddy 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, why isn't Justin turning himself in to the mountees and getting himself imprisoned, confessing to the crime he so obviously did? After all, JT has said that you should believe any woman who makes a complain of sexual assault/rape, and since she's made that complaint, and since we should believe her, he is guilty. Isn't sexual assault or rape a crime in canada? Turn yourself in JT. Its only the right thing to do.

[–]Philip8000 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, we all know you can't be a real male feminist unless you get used of something. So on behalf of all peoplekind, remember what he believes when it comes to his accusers: listen and believe.

Good. Hoisted on his own petard seem just for him.

The male feminists set themselves up in front of a firing squad, while they apologize profusely for crimes that didn't happen. I can't ever imagine the MRM doing this stuff to female MRAs.

[–]omegaphallic[S] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Your absolutely right, I've never seen MRAs treat a female MRA as disposable trash the way I've seen feminists treat male feminists.

[–]chadwickofwv 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I can't ever imagine the MRM doing this stuff to female MRAs.

Because, we're not sexist like them.
