What are the consequences for falsely accusing someone of sexual assault?

99.9 percent of the time: none. Occasionally one of the stupider perps gets arrested. Not sure any woman has ever done hard time for it though. Maybe a few months and probation at the most.

If the question is what the legal penalties in a hypothetical sense, I'd love to know. Just googled it, and all that came up were pages on whether false rape accusations exist and how the concept is unjust to womyns everywhere.

In real life, making a false rape accusation is safer than air travel.

Same as perjury. The standard of proof is still the same, beyond a reasonable doubt, it takes more than an acquittal of the accused to charge someone of false accusation. Human memory is ridiculously bad, and there usually won't be a conviction unless they admit to it.
