I don't think abortion is a Men's Rights issue.

Generally, people who are against abortion are against it on the grounds that it's murder. If it is murder then it's not a Men's Rights issue, it's just murder.

Generally, people who are in favour of abortion are so on the grounds that it is not murder, and the woman's control over her body trumps any concern about a fetus. In this case it has nothing to do with a man per se.

Ie, if you think abortion should be legal then surely the woman's rights over her own body outweigh any interest of the father, and if you think it should not be legal then it doesn't matter what the father thinks.

Some people think that the father should have a say in abortion, but I don't think that's a supportable position and I think it's a very small minority within MRA-types (certainly, egalitarian ones).

(Also, I think it's a divisive issue and doesn't help the pursuit of men's rights in general.)

I have two positions - a moral one and a legal one.

Morally, I LOATHE it. I will never choose it for myself.

Legally, I think women should have the choice.

I also believe men should have a right to a legal abortion - aborting their rights & responsibilities as fathers within the same timeframe that women have to choose an abortion.

Morally, I believe men should have a say whether or not a woman has an abortion. But not legally.

I hope this is all making sense to people.

I'm pro-choice. Men benefit from abortion. Any reproductive rights problems that men have can be fixed by strengthening men's reproductive rights.

Consent to fatherhood and LCFM as a norm would fix most of the problems, but we need good access to abortion in place for it to work.

Abortion is one of those topics I can't form a definitive opinion on. I understand the reasons why a woman would want an abortion, but it also seems arbitrary to define the start of human life at any time other than conception.

Politically, my support for abortion is inversely proportional to how threatened I feel by feminists on other issues, like lowering the legal standards for rape conviction, for instance. I see the right-wing attacks on abortion in the U.S. as indirectly helpful to men's rights because they constitute a core challenge to political feminists that forces them to use resources that might otherwise be used pursuing misandrist policies. Fighting to preserve abortion rights keeps them busy and on the defensive, rather than on the offensive to enact more policies that benefit women at men's expense. If I didn't see political feminism as a hostile force, I would be ambivalently pro-choice.

Abortion - referring to terminating a pregnancy - is not an MR issue. There is no way to support a man having a choice in abortion that does not subjugate the woman. That is why a "financial abortion" is what MR attempts to argue for. It leads to (effectively) the same result, but without subjugating another human being.

Beyond that, abortion is a moral issue. I'm personally opposed to anything that frames it as a "woman's choice", as it's deceitful. The big argument about a woman's choice has gone and passed; the debate now is on whether or not a fetus is considered to be a person, and more specifically, when that happens. If it's accepted that a fetus is a person from point x, then any abortion on or after point x is necessarily murder. If it's not accepted, then it cannot be considered murder. Unfortunately, it's basically just people slinging mud back and forth at each other right now, so I try not to get into it too much. Personally, I consider a good cut-off point being viability.

Abortion should always be considered an option of last resort.

If one is willing to suffer through nine months of hardship to give the child up for adoption they have my respect but I don't fault those who choose to terminate pregnancies.

My big concern when it comes to the issue is that in many first world countries such as Japan and Russia wide spread use of abortion is further increasing their rate of depopulation.

Personally, I'm generally okay with how it is now in some of the more liberal states; okay up to the end of the second trimester, beyond that, only in specific circumstances, like the fetus is dead, anyways, etc.

But I'm going to add a bit that I tend to agree with regarding where it touches on Men's Rights. A Voice for Men pointed out something that I found a lot of sense with. If a woman is able to legally disavow herself of all responsibility for a fetus/baby by way of abortion or adoption, without any consent from the father, the father should be able to legally disavow himself of all responsibility at any time during the pregnancy and for a time after birth. A Voice for Men radio explain it a lot better than I ever could, but that's the gist of it. I think that seems pretty fair to me, and ties in to the whole 'take responsibility for your rights' sub-movement within the MRM. If a woman has a choice about whether she wants to take responsibility for a fetus/baby, than so should the man. He shouldn't be held captive by the State for 18 years against his will.

I think this is a human rights issue, not a women's rights issue. I support the right to have an abortion for the same reason I would oppose a law that obligated me to give an organ transplant or blood transfusion to anyone who needed one. A fetus creates no obligations merely by existing.

Abortion is a men's rights issue because abortion is funded by men through tax enabled subsidization; we are taxed more to subsidize abortions. We need to have women pay for abortions themselves entirely. Bring back responsibility. They need to pay for the full cost of abortions and if they can't afford it they need to take out loans. The only thing I'm willing offer women for free, if it were legal, is euthanasia. You could come to me with your irresponsible lazy ass and I'd reduce two problems to zero by pumping you full of lead. Pisses me the hell off that all these cunts with help from the government are taking dollar out of my wallet.
