High school girls admitted to targeting and falsely accusing a boy of sexual assault because they 'just don't like him'. Boy was fired from his job, forced to serve time in a juvenile detention facility, is now home-schooled and suffers psychological trauma. School officials just didn’t care.

McGowan is a hypocrite, no way around that. Her words carry no weight

[–]brand-new-bad-news 11 points12 points13 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I suspect this may have been the first time in her life that she's written the words "due process".

[–]Pipe_42 15 points16 points17 points 7 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

Hmmm. Its right that she is calling Asia Argento out on this, but the tone used in the statement is very, very different to what we've seen when it was a male perpetrator.

I'd like to chalk it up to her being closer to Asia and therefore being more sympathetic to a friend. But I really doubt a male friend of hers would receive the same sympathy were the positions reversed.

About the only positive I can find in this revelation, apart from justice for abused males too of course is that some, and only some women are now asking more questions about abuse in general. Rather than ignoring the fact that it's an issue at all for men.

"But I really doubt a male friend of hers would receive the same sympathy were the positions reversed."

People who turn on friends as soon as things go wrong are not friends in the first place!

[–]Pipe_42 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

True, but this is sexual abuse and pedophilia. I don't care how close a friend or family member you are. If I found out you've raped a child or murdered someone we are fucking done. Some stuff is wrong. End of.

[–]CryingHappyMonkey 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A real friend will wait to a) hear your side of the story, b) be open to the facts, c) withhold judgement until things are clear. Even if they end up believing that you are guilty, then they should consider the whole situation and decide how it should impact your friendship.

You use murdering someone as an example of a "final friendship ender" but what if there was some reason that justifies it ethically but not legally. A man in Alabama found a guy violently raping his daughter. He stopped the guy, then took the guy into the woods and shot him dead. That's murder that is not legally justified, but if one of my friends did that then he'd still be my friend.

[–]mwobuddy -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

True, but this is sexual abuse and pedophilia.

So a 21 year old fucks a 17 year old and its sexual abuse and pedophilia? God damn.

[–]Pipe_42 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Depending on the age of consent in your area and country, then yes it is.

[–]antilopes 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Would you dump a friend over them just having sex with a 17yo in a location where the age of consent was 18? That is a pretty technical offense considering the AoC is 16 in most US states and 14 in Argento's country as in much of southern Europe.

[–]mwobuddy 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Sweet. I found another person who doesn't understand that pedophilia is a psychological and not a legal term. Who doesn't understand that pedophilia definitively means prepubescents, which 17 year olds are not. That it has nothing to do with age of consent.

[–]Pipe_42 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Fair point. I've looked up a couple of things and you are right. Thank you for pointing that out.

It will take some time for me to process that as pedophilia has been a catch all term used to describe sexual behaviour and urges to those under the age of consent. But I'll work on that.

I'll also add that I'm from the UK and the age of consent here is 16. Which is close enough to the line I feel to warrant some very careful behaviours. Hell, I now know that of I had sex with a 15 year old it'd be statutory rape rather than pedophilia but that's a distinction I don't feel the need to make in my head.

Just don't have sex with anyone underage has always been my thought process and I've felt no need to examine the definitions between the two acts.

[–]mwobuddy 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because the APA has refused to recognize sexual attraction/action with someone 14-18 as being a mental disorder or being 'particularly deviant'.

Imagine if that were the case, and 16 year olds would be considered sexual deviants for attraction to other 16 year olds.

Consider the following: We are for gay rights because "sexual attraction IS NOT A CHOICE SHITLORDS!".

So, sexual attraction isn't a choice, is that correct? Well, when you're getting into teen years, suddenly you're sexually attracted to teens. If you could choose to stop having that attraction, you would be defying the logic that sexual attraction is a choice, which damages the concept of gay being a biological function outside someone's control.

A biological attraction doesnt change with age, as evidenced by the studies showing men 20-69 prefer women "averaging age 20 (which hints at wanting under 18 as well as over 22)"

[–]Keenin455 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

She was grooming him from childhood you fucking tard.

[–]mwobuddy 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Oh so we just use the magic word grooming and suddenly everything's all better.

[–]Keenin455 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

He was groomed as a kid and it wasn't consensual. Take your rape supporting ass out of here.

[–]mwobuddy 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

GROOMED I TELL YA

[–]Keenin455 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

And it wasn't consensual. So shut your little rape supporting piehole. Unsurprisingly, you fail to bring any sense to the table regarding this topic.

And let me guess, you going to once again shift it to teenagers of the same age having sex with each other as if it has any bearing, whatsoever, on this topic. Three...Two...

[–]mwobuddy 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

well then clearly two teenagers having sex is also rape and unconsensual since they're too young to consent.

[–]CryingHappyMonkey 11 points12 points13 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

We have an entire criminal justice system that is built around trying to give people justice while protecting everyone equally. It's not a perfect system. It often gets distorted by humans who let their own biases interfere with what they should be doing. But it is a system that have been designed over hundreds of years by some of the greatest thinkers to ever live.

But Rose and her MeToo buddies think they can just make a better system overnight based on whatever little ideas just popped into their heads.

[–]antilopes -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

MeToo was never meant to be an improvement on the justice system.
In the vast majority of cases it has no point of contact with the justice system - there is no police complaint, nor is the other party identified to the public.

For most of the MeToo posts I've seen the perp will never even be aware they were posted. To keep this in perspective I saw a list of that tiny fraction of MeToo claims which have been published in the press. There were only 200 or so, I don't know how many of those involved legal action.

[–]CryingHappyMonkey 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

"MeToo" is very clearly about "holding men accountable". Google the phrase and see how many times advocates have used it!

The explanation goes "Some man did bad things, but he's not being punished by the patriarchal system. That means the system is biased and protects men, so we will publicly shame the person and pressure his employer to fire him!"

MeToo is absolutely a misguided attempt to create new justice system for harassment that is based on assuming guilt and using public shaming and social media pressure to implement punishment.

Edit: Title IX is also a shitty new "justice" system that has been created because the existing legal system doesn't punish "rapists" without evidence. The actual courts need "beyond a reasonable doubt" to punish someone and they don't allow bogus evidence. Title IX committees allow all sorts of bogus evidence and they only require "more likely than not" to convict someone.

too bad she admitted having sex with him when he was 17 which is illegal.

[–]brand-new-bad-news 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

She didn't admit to it. She denied it and private communications showed she was lying. She even claimed he was the one that sexually assaulted her. What a scumbag.

[–]mwobuddy 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

.#Ibelieveher

Those sexy 17 year olds always sexually assaulting people. I used to see that in high school parties with alcohol.

[–]antilopes 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I suspect she did not drop her fast at all, but it was Argento's lies to Rain Dove and presumably herself that ended the friendship, and her acceptance of the alleged 12yo nude selfies. "It isn't the crime, it is the coverup that gets people".

McGowan may still be undecided about whether the sex was not consensual, apart from the legal situation in California. I certainly am.
It is sad that McGowan and others needed a male accuser/female accused to make her temper her enthusiasm for "believe the victim" but I think many of us knew that would be the case.
I'm just happy to see MeToo is growing up.

[–]HotJohnnyTabasco 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It is beautiful when (a) their own policies are applied to themselves and (b) they start turning on each other.

[–]andejoh 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She's not trying to do the right thing. She's trying to cover her ass.
