The only reason for not testing is so that a minority of women can cuckold their partners. This brings all women into disrepute. Demanding a test is not practical for most men as it shows distrust and will harm the marriage. Making test mandatory (or automatic) removes this problem.

What shocks me is how people think it's only something that happens on the Maury Povich show or how non-Americans think "Oh, that only happens in America."

If you talk about the reality of it and how the "justice" system handles it with them, they tend to get a serious case of just world fallacy going.

You don't have to have the mother's consent to get a paternity test, you just have to obtain a testable sample from the child. Its completely confidential.

I think paternity testing should be required at birth in all cases where the mother is planning to fill in the "father" blank on the birth certificate, and have that guy legally liable for the responsibilities of fatherhood - so, all married women and all women who show up at the hospital with a supportive boyfriend (or whoever) in tow.

I'm not interested in forcing a single woman to identify her sex partners - I think that's an invasion of her privacy. As long as she's not pointing the finger at a particular guy, I'm 100% happy for her child to have just one legal parent.

I do, I take it a step further:

I think that the scarier thought for me would be not knowing I have a kid. I think that, just like probate, if the father can not be identified by what should be a DNA test, then a sworn affidavit should be given stating that the father is dead. If the father is not dead, then the new mother, who just brought a wonderful child into the world should have her name and possibly photo in the paper, not unlike probate, seeking out the father. I find it to be horribly unjust that women can have kids and never ever tell the father.

If a man brings a child to the world, he should know the child exists so he can step up and choose to be a father if he so desires. Even an unwanted child would be welcomed by most men.

You can get one without letting the mother know and thus now hurt her feelings. It is personal choice and you only need your child and yourself. It is very cheap also (just google paternity testing). If you want to be sure, go do it as soon as possible.

This idea is a good start and a perfect issue for political lobbyists. I would also go a step further. A women who extorts or attempts to extort money from a non-biological father should be held accountable and tried for extortion.

Possible Penalties:

* Jail time of up to 4 years or more * A minimum fine of $10,000
