Yes, it's clearly being used as a hype word in your country's media. Real 'femicide' would be serial killers that really specifically want to serial kill women for gratification of killing women specifically.

As for actual femicide by popular definition - it has existed in China and India for many years especially in infants.

However most male on female murders are. Its often a dual motivation. Most femicides is written off as rape murder.

Femicide is a hate crime similar to racial or religious murders - the idea being it is an attack on their status.

If you can attack, brutalize, rape and murder a woman, you most likely hate women. Most male serial killers who kill women have had clear disdain for them. We blow it off as just lust leads to rape and murder covers it up. But there is an undertone of deep deep hatred for women in most of those cases. Femicide not only is real, it's ignored under the guise of being on the same scale as being murdered over drugs or money.

If a group of one race of men ganged up on some guy of another race and spent hours brutally torturing him to death, it would immediately be perceived as a hate crime. When men do that to women, it's not perceived as a hate crime. The only way you could classify it as a hate crime is if they explicitly stated it was for being female.

If a man is assaulted and murdered, people don’t say he was killed because he was a man. Why the difference?

He is rarely targeted for his specific status of being male.

From how I understand it, a lot of rapists will kidnap and rape a woman just for being a woman. And then they kill them in hopes of keeping the cops from finding out.

So, in a roundabout sort of way, they were killed for being women. Or killed because prostitution is illegal.

I mean it happens, but it's rare. Like that guy who shot up the gym in pittsburgh or the guy who killed those women in Montreal (though he also injured 4 men). So basically, if a man goes somewhere to harm women because they are women and existing in a particular space (especially a public space), that would be a femicide.

I don't think it makes sense to label intimate partner violence as "femicide"

Look up the stats for your country, see if the number is relevant. In most places its so small as to be laughable.

It seems to be people ignore the main cause and use the word femicide because it fits their narrative. If a man is assaulted and murdered, people don’t say he was killed because he was a man. Why the difference?

Well that should come as no surprise. Feminists love to do this, every week they have a new definition of what constitutes assault/rape. Politicians love to do this to drum up votes. MSM loves to do this to stoke hysteria and drive ratings.
