I have no idea if he'd qualify as alpha by the RP metric, but it did strike me that the reason the couples are choosing a guy like him is so the husbands in this arrangement don't feel threatened. It's certainly not because of his impressive genetic profile.

This guy does not look like an ideal genetic specimen. I'm not sure why so many women or couples are willing to do it on the cheap when the end product is your child. I would rather spend the extra money and find somebody who has excellent physical and mental traits.

And, of course, no way would my wife be having actual sex with the man. It would be sperm washing and intrauterine insemination only, which is really not that expensive to do and many health insurances cover it.

He is alpha only in the sense that he can fool some people into having sex with him when there are better and inexpensive options out there for them.
