Everyone does unpaid labor, that's what relationships are all about. Problems start popping up when it becomes more one sided or unfair.

Interdependency is what a lot of relationships aim for. In a lot of relationships you are building a team to get through life with. Having a partner means there are things that only one of you NEEDS to do. You aren’t doing it because the other can’t or won’t, but because distributing energy and time makes it easier on both of you.

If someone is resentful (rightly or wrongly) about the labor distribution, that’s a fairly major issue in the relationship.

While ‘unpaid labor’ used in this way is a feminist term designed to address how income and labor are not necessarily tied, I don’t think one gender is more likely then the other to half ass what they have to give or expect more than they are willing to provide. Some people are leaches. It’s not super gendered.

I agree. As a single man. I have to do all my house work. Work a 60 hour a week job. Do the emotional labor of calling my mom on her birthday, etc.

I agree with the feminists, that the government should pay me for this. Of course at my normal labor rate.
