Husband giving neutral/negative remarks when I dress up

A while back I also started dressing nicer. My husband responded positively and complimented me on my look and style. At first he would ask what the occasion was. I just told him that I wanted to look nicer around him. He also started dressing nicer.

Have you told him that you want to look more feminine?

My partner likes when I dress up for special occasions, but I think if I did it every day he'd react similarly to your husband. I think you're right that he just needs some time to get used to your new style, there's something comforting in seeing your partner how you're used to seeing them and any changes can be a little jarring.

I know my guy doesn't like it if I wax my legs or wear make up since it makes me look less like a normal person if that makes sense. Seeing my bare face and hairy legs is comforting since he's got a bare face and hairy legs, so I'm more genuine and real to him like that then if I'm making more of an effort to look better/ more glamorous. He's not nasty about it or anything and I can do what I like for my own personal look, but I understand what he means.

It could be something similar with your husband. He's used to your old look with tshirts and shorts, to him that's you and its comforting seeing you like that. You're new look is quite different, even though it's still you its something he's not used to and probably doesn't feel used to it yet. Try talking to him about it to see if it's just that or if it's something else that bothers him.

I think he just hadn’t adjusted to it yet he just needs to get used to it, or maybe he prefers being casual and he just doesn’t know how to articulate it properly

Mine actually prefers no makeup most of the time. He loves when I get all dressed up and compliments me but he also loves when I'm just in my pajamas. I will just be sitting there in a Tshirt with no makeup and hair in a bun and he tells me how beautiful I look.

He has said to keep the fancy clothes and makeup for special occasions otherwise it won't be special, if I looked like that all the time. He likes that I can change my look for certain occasions but doesn't want it like that all the time.

I think some men really just like the natural, no effort look. Maybe because no one else sees you like that? A lot of men I know prefer low maintenance women, especially if you travel a lot.

Sometimes change can be shocking to the system. He may be bumbling on this. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt.

I'd suggest asking him directly. It can go something like this.

Hey, I decided to improve the way I dress, but I would like to understand your reaction. Would you explain it to me?

this is so typical. just tell him you just want to be your best self, and he will be happy for you.
