Supporting Your Husband's Mission

I stay at home so basically everything I do is to support M! Outside of normal household maintenance and cooking, my biggest role is actually helping his image and helping him form connections and strengthen relationships. When I accompany him places I have to look and act the part to boost his status. Now that I'm mostly off of bed rest (concussions aren't fun!) I'll be able to dedicate more time to these things and form advantageous relationships of my own.

I really want to read "How to Help Your Husband Get Ahead in His Social and Business Life" by Dorothy Carnegie. I've found a lot of great etiquette books (publishing dates ranging from the 1860 to the 1950s) that have sections on this subject but an entire book dedicated to the topic sounds perfect. I'll search for other options and report back if I find anything good!

My fiance's mission is to create a powerful balance between his graduate studies (first year!) and his leisure time. He is someone who loves what he does, and I love watching how far he's come with it. But he recognizes that he can easily work too much, so he relies on me to help him create a positive balance.

I do this by making sure he doesn't have to worry about the little things. I cook and do most of the cleaning (he requests to do dishes in the morning, it helps him get started on his day). I do the grocery shopping, and I come up with plans for any of our time spent together. I pick TV shows to watch in the evenings (we both hate over the top violence and sexualization like Game of Thrones, so it takes a little work).

I'm able to tell him without looking what's in the pantry, freezer, and fridge. I keep tabs on things like "Do we have enough trash bags? Enough litter? Does he have enough bodywash?" so he never has to worry about it.

According to him, I've helped him break the ice with some of his co-workers by sending him off with Christmas cookies or some kind of snacks or the tub of homemade hummus. He isn't always great at making those first steps, but he tells me they all picture me as Little Suzy Homemaker and ask where they can find one of their own. :)

Right now R's mission is a pretty stress free life before the crazy of babies starts. We had a few rocky years with the loss of his mom and the crazy of house/wedding. So while not all rocky is bad he's ready for a bit of boring right now. So that's his current short term mission.

I support him similarly to Camille - I take care of so much at home so he doesn't need to think about it. I also handle day to day finances. I manage the cash flow for all the regular bills, (long term planing he handles) Another way I support him is by keeping our calendar balanced with fun things that aren't too draining on him (he's an introvert).

Following his lead is the most important thing I can do for him right now. I do most of the housework (all except dishes, that's his thing, I don't fight it), which I feel is just a given, but I also work full time and we have a lot of goals coming up with paying off our debts, meeting our savings goal, and taking one more trip abroad before we buy a new house. He developed a savings plan that will help us accomplish all of these goals (I'm not the best with money so he is in charge of all of our money with the exception of whatever I do with my "allowance" I take) so basically, the biggest thing I can do is standing by that plan and not giving in to temptation when something comes up that I would really like to spend money on. It will be worth it in the end when we're in our new home with a few new passport stamps sans debt (aside from the mortgage).

Simple but big question!

I think his mission is to advance professionally and to be a good father at the moment.

I can't really do loads for the first, apart from ensuring he can work weird hours when necessary, still have nice meals and make sure if i attend work events that I am helping his image. I can help to support him with proofreading sometime as well.

For the second, I keep the house chores mostly so that we can spend family time at the weekend and support him in parenting decisions. I also help him unwind if she has been really difficult and frustrating!

LOL, I love this!

Right now my husband has been on a mission to find a builder to build a house, that he has planned, on our extra lot. If we find a builder now, we can break ground in the Spring hopefully! I've supported him by listening to him plan things, but mostly I've supported him by not rushing in and taking over the project, LOL!

My husband's mission is to live a stress-free life. He has a very intellectual job that requires him to focus on problem-solving all day long, so when he comes home, he wants to relax and "not have to think".

I support it by not nagging and trying my best to make our house a haven of peace and tranquility for him. I do the normal household care (cleaning, laundry, etc), as well as taking on the more "administrative" tasks, since he hates doing them with a passion, and I absolutely adore it. Some examples would be filing taxes, keeping the calendars up to date, filling out forms, doing research and calls for various things such as medical appointments, keeping the budget up to date, etc. He really likes it when I take care of all this and give him a succinct report when needed. I feel like his wife and his secretary, and I love it.

Also, a more lighthearted mission of his is his main hobby: raiding in WoW. He is in a serious guild that wants to progress. My way of supporting him is having characters that have professions to make him all sorts of supplies (potions, flasks, food, etc), so that way, when he sits down and play, he doesn't have to spend hours gathering ingredients for his supplies and can instead focus on what he loves in the game.

So basically, I cook for him in real-life and in-game. And he loves both. :)
