How do you keep yourself looking presentable?

From following ultra feminine women, I have learnt that looking well put together basically boils down to the following.

Healthy, shiny hair and a great haircut
Clear, healthy glowing skin.
Avoid going barefaced and always have at the very minimum - mascara and lipgloss
Nails which are well kept.
Cannot stress this enough - perfume. (Important - please find a signature scent that compliments your body chemistry, as opposed to going for popular ones).

I'm 8 months pregnant, have a toddler, and work full time but I've been able to figure out some ways of looking feminine and presentable that are also low maintenance and don't take a lot of time or cost a lot of money.

Growing your hair long helps a lot. When I was younger I was mistakenly under the impression that short hair was less effort, but with short hair you need regular haircuts, product, and styling. I have straight hair that isn't super thick so I use volumizing shampoo and conditioner 2 to 3 times a week, comb and braid it after showering. Keep it braided for a day, let it down for a day or two, then an updo for another day or so if necessary.

Simple makeup, usually just eyeliner and shadow and chap stick, though lately prefer Palmer's shea butter stick because it doesn't dry your lips out as badly when you aren't using it. Lotion plus not over washing your skin is also your friend, I've found. In the winter time or in places that aren't humid anytime you use soap on your skin follow it up with moisturizer. Also if you can afford it and have the time getting your nails done helps a lot. I absolutely destroy my nails whether I'm at home or at work so getting my nails done every once in a while helps me feel more feminine and put together.

Lots of leggings and dresses/blouses with flats, sneakers, or boots. A nice cardigan or sweater when it's cooler outside. I know it's probably not a popular opinion on here but I hate wearing heels. They're uncomfortable, I'm a mom now and hella pregnant to boot, plus I like being significantly shorter than my husband as opposed to closer to his height. You can look feminine and presentable without wearing heels.

Obviously it depends on your routine and lifestyle, but I've found a pretty good balance with this. I was a tomboy growing up and kinda vacillated between low maintenance to the extent that I might as well have been a dude and trying to be feminine to a high maintenance extent that's hard to keep going when you're busy and/or going through a hard time. The things I listed above are the equilibrium I have finally been able to figure out over 15 years or so of trial and error.

Makeup-microbladed brows & light natural makeup unless going out

Clothes- fits, matched with shoes/accessories, usually a dress or skirt but around the house I’ll wear shorts, dressed for the occasion, also I always have to wear matching bra/panties bc it makes me feel put together

Body-workout 2h week, eat decent, spritz of perfume

Nails- painted or clean/trimmed

Hair- easy low maintenance style, hair masks & good shampoo/conditioner 3x week, haircuts 2x year, self toning as needed. If going out I’ll straighten or curl.

Skin- cleanse, tone, serums, moisturize, masks, exfoliate weekly

Body hair- laser hair removal on bikini and underarms plus I shave my legs

But most important without a smilie and good attitude it doesn’t matter how well a woman appears. For me being feminine is more about establishing a routine vs getting glammed up every day but I don’t work just side gigs. And my fiancé prefers a more natural look.

Go that extra step. Yeah, you could go to target in yoga pants and a sweatshirt, but why? Try a dress or a top and a skirt. Don’t dress down just because others do.

It depends on where you are in your life and your circumstances. If you’re a stay at home mom with newborn babies and toddler, wearing dresses and heels makes no sense.

I work from home so I’m basically in pajamas and gym clothes 24/7. On the weekend I’ll wear jeans and a cute top. My husband really doesn’t mind and believe me, I know how to glam up when I need to.

Just make sure you’re doing the standard maintenance like brushing your hair, showering, dental hygiene, that kind of stuff. Also, keeping your body in shape is really attractive even if you’re bare faced and in gym clothes.

Get an easy hairstyle. Mine is long, my natural shade of brunette, and I have Zooey Deschanel bangs, which I learned to cut from YouTube. I do have really easy hair, but on my worst day, all I have to do is straighten and spray the bangs and I'm fine. Since it's long, it can also go in messy bun or a sporty ponytail, like my husband likes. Not having too much of a mom cut can make a big difference.

I spent a long time not taking care of myself, and I can tell you that when you first start making the effort to look presentable and put together, it can take a lot of energy and it can feel like a big learning curve. However, over time, good self-care becomes a habit, and it isn't as difficult. If you want to start doing all the things, by all means do all the things.

One thing I did was reach out to friends whose style I admire. We went through my closet, and found quite a lot that I could throw away because it was ill-fitting or depressing looking. We also found things that were bright and happy that I had neglected. I got away from dark depressing colors and started looking for things that are more feminine and soft. It feels so good to go out knowing that I like how I look every day.

Skin care is essential. Nothing says neglect more than a dull face. The time you spend figuring that part out is well worth the trouble. When I go out, I know that others appreciate the effort I take to look nice, and having done that, I notice it in others and show appreciation. I think this benefit is often overlooked. I am closer to other women who have decided that self-care is worth the effort.

As women, we all go through seasons, so I will never judge a woman who is not doing all the things that I am doing. However, knowing the benefits, I applaud you for taking the step, and I hope that you will continue to appreciate and shine out your beauty as time goes on.

I am lazy as hell. I barely get out of bed fifteen minutes before I arrive at work, some days. If you're a lazy girl like me, long term things work the best.

I get gel polish on my nails. They keep for a month. At the 2 week mark, I use accent polish (extra thin brush) and fill the gap between gel and cuticle with gold, giving a cute little crescent moon accent. I wear a gold ring that matches.

Match 2 accessories together. Ear rings and a necklace OR finger ring in the same color or metal tone. Buy belts that match your shoes. These things quickly tie together any outfit.

Lash extensions. They need work every 6 weeks, for me. No mascara needed.

Healthy skin means you glow without makeup. I use The Ordinary granactive retinoid 5% in squalene at night, cetaphil moisturizer in the am, and a vitamin c spf in between.

Great advice from the previous posters. I just would add that's not only how you look but your demeanour around others that will make you feel and look feminine even I'm sweatpants. Also if I'm just in my comfies around dthe house I put my hair in a plait or an easy up do I hope my comment helps you 😊

I like to wear clothes I like outdoors but home is where I relax and like to feel completely comfortable. I think it's a heavy expectation to look presentable when you are lounging around the house but each to their own.
