I (29F) haven’t been in a serious relationship since 2017. I’ve dated during this time, but it’s never worked out and I always feel like I’m too much for these guys. I’ve achieved a lot in those years - started my own successful consulting business (I’m in healthcare), managing a team at a bigger company, and purchased a house on my own. I’m close with my family and have a great group of friends too. I take really good care of my physical appearance and invest in things like my hair and skin and fitness.
Every guy I’ve dated has been a bad fit for me. They’ve dragged me down. Either with their outlook and attitude (not ambitious, lacks direction in life, confused and coasting, emotionally unavailable) or not a good personality fit (party lifestyle, impulsive spender, childish/ immature). I feel like all the dating I’ve done in this time has stoped me from chasing my other goals (like taking my fitness to another level, accepting jobs in different states) for fear that the guy wouldn’t support me - but in the end they all revealed themselves to be incredibly selfish and unsupportive anyway. I don’t know what to do anymore. Something in me wants to just quit dating and focus solely on chasing my goals and pouring my energy into achieving them. Being in healthcare, I spend so many of my own time and emotional resources helping others, and maybe it’s time that I start to allow myself to preserve some of that for me? At the same time, I’m watching my friend’s get married. I then I get FOMO. No one on my extended social circle is single anymore. Which makes dating even harder. I feel as if I’m at a crossroads and I’m not sure where to next.
