Yes, I homeschool. I think the most difficulties I have right now (since my kids are in the dating age yet), is my oldest daughter picking up someone’s low level scorn at my being a housewife and “chained” down at home with all these kids (thankfully, only happens occasionally). I think she knows I like what I do, so maybe me being positive will outbalance others’ prejudices

The other is tangential “red pill”. We’re not exactly “free range kids”, but they have some independence other kids their age dont. The older ones walk to our homeschool group once a week while I drive the little ones (we’re 6 blocks away), sometimes I send the oldest to the corner deli for Italian coffee or antipasto

last night the neighbor came over to say kids were on the roof, and I had to tell him they are allowed (the 11, 10 and 8 year olds) on the porch flat roof, and tonight especially because they were looking for the Christmas comet which is supposed to be over Orion right now. He was skeptical, haha

The third thing I would say is my personal goal to show respect to my sons, while also being their mother (having to discipline, etc), especially as they get older. Would appreciate advice on that

Regarding peer influence, I recommend surrounding yourself with people who share your values. Then their kids won’t be the negative influence (except in normal kid ways)

(Love having a big family; would highly recommend)

Belgium. The requirements are that your kids take 2 examinations, one for primary and one for highschool, at the appropriate ages (but I know a kid who took the highschool one early so he didn't need to do the primary one). You need to work toward the same goals as regular schools. And there are inspections.

In the Netherlands, you can only homeschool based on religious extremism (yes, seriouly) or if your kid is completely unable to go to any school, and there are no inspections or exams (you can do highschool central exams if you want, but that's all parents initiative). And if your kid has ever been in a school, they never allow you to homeschool based on religion anymore. And school inspectors sometimes call CPS (who get bonuses for taking more kids away) if you even set the process in motion (even though that is illegal, because homeschooling is not sufficient grounds). Pretty messed up.

The Belgium educational system is a bit more thorough in terms of studying by heart, and they start French early, but otherwise it's pretty much the same as the Dutch. Dutch schools are screaming madhouses though, Belgians make the kids line up and be quiet.
