A bit late, but recruited by u/VigilantRedRooster, so here I am.

Possibly Sigma. Sounds a lot like Jon in some aspects. However definitely more introverted and/or lower empathy. Even Sigmas tend to hold one or two close friends who accept and tolerate their abrasiveness, even if they basically torment everyone else for the fun of it. They may see them once or twice a year, but there is a consistent tribal thing going off when they're together. That said, he may simply be cutting you off from his closer friends. Which is a serious red flag. Sigmas keep few people and if they don't want those people to interact, then they are leading multiple lives in one way or another.

The parts of him you are taking issue with seem to be more his lack of empathy and less his sociosexual status. Whether he is non-empathic or simply repressing his empathy, he is denying you an emotional connection you want, maybe even need. And he's figured you've tolerated or even enjoyed it for so long, you must be happy with it. Alphas and Betas can behave as you described too, and you wouldn't like it any more from them. In short: you sound more bothered about his efforts to control you than about his lack of a determined group of followers or his lack of willingness to lead and support. You need to ask yourself whether you can be with a non-empath, not whether you can be with a Sigma, so I can't really help there. But you have been with him, as he is, for almost a decade. Which should be telling you a bit about yourself and your own needs.

Sigmas tend to be skittish and will often bolt if they feel things aren't going well (it's a cost-benefit analysis sort of thing, don't take it personally).

Wow. Hit home. I suddenly don't feel like a dick for ghosting so much. This is really how I feel about it, I don't want to waste anyone's time, not mine, not yours, so hey if the ride isn't fun I'll get off for both our sake. (sorry, I know this doesn't answer your question).

There's your problem right there. What were you thinking, that the man you already married would become?

You have a dream in your head, and he's not changing to fit it?

He sounds successful and like originally you liked or at least knew these things about him.

But I do have sympathy for you about the mood swings. I don't think you should armchair diagnose him as a psycho. If anything he may have an emotion or mood disorder. It's your job to protect yourself and see if you can get through this together.
