The friend zone is what happens when guys are misguided and pursue relationships instead of sex. A woman has no incentive to try and lock you down and will keep you on the back burner forever if she can. There are no friends in the friend zone, they're just guys on the back burner.

Source-actual experience. ):

[–][deleted] 30 points31 points32 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

There are no friends in the friend zone

People need to realize this. Should be called the "I don't really respect you but having you around has certain benefits I don't necessarily want to give up" zone.

But that's not as catchy.

[–]AlwaysLateToThreads 16 points17 points18 points 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm sure we could brain storm a catchy relevant name for it!

Edit: so I've decided "the friend zone" is now called "the back burner."

[–]iKill_eu 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For the most part, exactly this. I've met a few girls that had guys in the friendzone (lord, I fucking hate that word) because they actually valued their friendship without attraction, but I think it's rare because these guys typically don't make good friends.

[–]Endorsed Contributorvacuu 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Would that be equivalent to a slutty woman? They freely give out what only they can give and the other side wants. Same thing here, except what is given and what is wanted is reversed.

[–]AlwaysLateToThreads 9 points10 points11 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Essentially yes. In practice the word slut has a different definition for each gender, and neither gender wants to be with a slut.

A man can have lots of sex partners and one love, and he'll be awesome in a woman's eyes because his heart has a really high price. To men this sounds crazy, but that's how it works because in a woman's mind he's not a slut but a high value male.

[–]TRP Vanguard: "Dark Triad Expert"IllimitableMan 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Which is true subconsciously for them, but not consciously. Consciously they go into feminist mode and ask about sexual double standards when someone calls them on their own slutting... even though, you know, women always choose if sex happens and guys need talent/to be high on the social ladder to get it. But nevermind the ease of getting sex with a pussy pass, lets hope we can whine enough about double standards so men find our gaping slutty cunts and associated personalities desirable!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's basically the reverse of sluthood. Paying with emotions (validation etc.) without receiving sex.

[–]Bhorzo 29 points30 points31 points 12 years ago* (26 children) | Copy Link

To be fair, men who are only interested in sex with a particular woman shouldn't be faking a friendship for months/years, hoping she'll give in at some point. Only be friends with a girl if the friendship provides value on its own.

If you're just looking for sex, there's a lot of more direct (and less deceptive) ways to get that. Faking friendship in an effort to get sex is a pretty beta move... and women do have a right to be upset when it turns out your "friendship" was a sham just to get sex.

Though as I posted there, most of the times this happens it has more to do with the fact that the dude has oneitis and is deeply infatuated - and so I think 2x was completely off-base with their original response (ie being upset that the guys only wanted sex).

[–]Reve_ 29 points30 points31 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

They're not looking for sex. They're looking for a relationship WHICH IS EXACTLY THE PROBLEM.

[–]Bhorzo 19 points20 points21 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree, the men talked about in that post are actually looking for relationships... which is why their response ("He just wanted me for sex!!") is completely misplaced.

If a man wanted a relationship and the woman didn't, then he's within his right to cut off all contact - and the woman shouldn't get upset or offended or feel objectified. No idea why they started down that road in that post. Some people just wanna find a reason to be upset/victimized I suppose.

[–]AlwaysLateToThreads 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If I could be 16 again... this was the No. 1, classical mistake of not only me but all my friends, basically most of my classmates as well. We looked for a relationship, we wanted a GF, and the sex part was basically regarded as something between a nice added bonus to a dreaded test i.e. getting her off or not, which we were afraid to fail.

All the masculine men did the opposite, they went for sex and if she was OK they mere let her to catch them into a relationship.

It is so incredibly bad that we didn't realize this. We did the literal opposite such as asking on the third date like "So are we together now?" Basically: "Do I get to brag my friends that I have a GF now so I am not entirely worthless?"

Although I don't know what would have happened if someone told us that. Fact is, we really wanted the emotional warmth of a relationship better than sex. I guess if we knew the hard truths back then we may have became clinically depressed, maybe it is better to take this pill at a later age when one can bear it better.

[–]Endorsed ContributorThe_PUA_Punanny 14 points15 points16 points 12 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

You have two of these points reversed:

men who are only interested in sex with a particular woman shouldn't be faking a friendship for months/years, hoping she'll give in at some point

Who does that? They want a relationship, they aren't faking anything.

Faking friendship in an effort to get sex is a pretty beta move

Faking it is totally alpha. Lots of women won't put out unless they think you're serious, so you pretend to be serious, then hit it and quit it.

The betas women are bitching about -- without having a leg to stand on, as usual -- are the ones who STOP orbiting her because they finally either give up or force a resolution of the orbiting.

The women are actually bitching because they are angry they lost an orbiter. They didn't want him to put them to a decision, they wanted to string him along forever.

When he finally says "I want to move this to the next level", then she cuts him loose in disgust.

Also, even GUYS can tell when a girl is interested in them. For any woman to claim that, with all her emotional intelligence, she just had no gosh darn idea he wanted to be with me is total bullshit.

They ALL know the guys are into them. Women fucking bank on it.

When they go online and bring attention to the fact they're a grrrl, it's because they know they will get free shit and attention for having a vagina. They don't give a fuck about a genuine friendship based on the content of their character.

[–]AlwaysLateToThreads 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Yeah. Most of the time they just don't want to deal with any guilt when everything comes crashing down and blame it all on the guy when it ends. They know damn well what's going on. They know they put the orbiter on the back burner.

The orbiter on the other hand hasn't got a clue because he genuinely thinks his "effort game" will pay off one day.

[–]Endorsed ContributorThe_PUA_Punanny 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

That's why I'm sick of people on TRP who are still brainwashed, posting woman victimhood stories about how they tried to take advantage of a guy but it backfired a guy was MEAN!

Like http://www.reddit.com/r/TheRedPill/comments/1ja9w6/2x_discuss_the_friend_zone_predictable_hamster/cbcs6a7

[–]AlwaysLateToThreads 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yep, her usury plan backfired. (Not really she still got to stay in his place and offer nothing). Women absolutely hate it when using a guy doesn't go as planned and he steps out of line.

[–]Endorsed ContributorThe_PUA_Punanny 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Boggles the mind that people on this forum still take a girl at her word and a bunch still want to get married. (cough)

Who does that? They want a relationship, they aren't faking anything.

They want a romantic relationship, but are faking a platonic friendship.

Faking it is totally alpha. Lots of women won't put out unless they think you're serious, so you pretend to be serious, then hit it and quit it.

I think that's pretty beta. I tell them I'm going to hit it and quit it, and they put out anyways... that's alpha. Alphas don't need to lie or fake or pretend anything.

The women are actually bitching because they are angry they lost an orbiter. They didn't want him to put them to a decision, they wanted to string him along forever.

For a lot of women, this is true, I agree. But not all women are aware that they are sexually stringing-along a guy. (And even if they are, I don't blame them - it's totally the guys fault.)

For any woman to claim that, with all her emotional intelligence, she just had no gosh darn idea he wanted to be with me is total bullshit.

This is probably true - but there are a lot of beta orbiting nice guys who can fake it pretty well. Also, some of these "women" are still teenagers, so I totally get how they had no idea some dude was infatuated with them.

When they go online and bring attention to the fact they're a grrrl, it's because they know they will get free shit and attention for having a vagina. They don't give a fuck about a genuine friendship based on the content of their character.

These girls are pretty obvious - and I think we all agree that they should be avoided if you are looking for a long-term romantic relationship.

I mean, there's a difference between spending weeks or months or years on a girl in order to somehow "win her heart" and faking an emotional connection for a night because you're a sociopathic vagina slayer.

And for that matter everyone lies. There wouldn't be an epidemic of single mothers in this country if mating success hinged on truth-telling.

[–]Bhorzo 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

faking an emotional connection for a night

Yeah - most people just call it "flirting". I can't imagine anyone having a problem with that.

And for that matter everyone lies.

Alphas don't really have to lie, because people are attracted to them anyways. Betas are usually the ones who end up lying, because their truth isn't attractive enough.

[–]greedo_posted_first 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Lie much yes? Sure.

Lie not at all? No.

[–]Bhorzo 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Why would alphas have to lie? Serious question - I'm honestly curious.

[–]greedo_posted_first -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think we probably have some differences about what constitutes "alpha" but it really should only be thought of as a term for describing sexual success, not a term to indicate possession of proxy traits or to moralize actions. The sexual marketplace is amoral and only numbers and quality matter. With that in mind, narcissim, machiavellianism, and psychopathic indicators are the secret sauce in the seduction game. And for all his natural charm and enviable social position, the man who doesn't massage his outwardmost self, act with discretion, and at least mimic psychopathic behaviors will be less successful with women than those ruffians who do.

TL;DR Lucy, you got some a-reading ta' do.

Narcissistic men will be better at building an attractive identity, crafting an alluring image, dressing themselves for maximum impact, and comporting themselves with the utmost self-regard. Women love all these characteristics in men, even if these traits are not societally beneficial in numbers exceeding a tiny percentage of men. A man who is full of himself is a man who is full of women’s love.

You cannot properly seduce women if you harbor illusions about their nature. A Machiavellian Man, owing to his willingness to engage in personally, and oftentimes mutually, advantageous deceits, is a skilled hand in the subtle feints of flirting. No seduction will take full flight without recourse to innuendo and barely concealed intent. The tacitly adversarial quality of seduction emanates from the fundamental premise that the reproductive goals of men and women are at odds, and the Machiavellian is the man best equipped to leverage that sweet antagonism to his ends.

The darkest of the three traits. It’s a short neural skip from mostly benign, promiscuous psychopath to Hannibal Lector. What is it about psychopaths that women can’t get thoughts of them out of their heads? Besides their evocation of high status shamans and warriors of EEA yore, psychopaths bring one big advantage to the mating arena that quickly propels them to the top — fearlessness. That dead zone in their prefrontal gray matter means that psychopaths don’t feel much when women reject them. No hurt, no guilt, no shame, no doubt, no anger, no nothing. Imagine the power at your fingertips if you had the ice cold stones to approach thousands of women nonstop without suffering even the slightest ding to your emotional state from any rejections. Imagine that, coupled with this exotic imperviousness, you impulsively hit on any woman who piqued your interest. I don’t think you’ll need a calculator to figure out how fast your notch count would rise given these personality priors. Chicks dig a go-getter.

While the average self-deprecating beta male will find it nearly impossible to reconfigure his emotions and thought patterns to match that of the natural born narcissist, Machiavellian, and psychopath, he has now at his disposal tools and concepts — which fly under the banner of “game” — to inch himself closer to Dark Triad triumph. A small adjustment here, a studied mimickry there, and that invisible boring beta male is suddenly finding that the veldt of vagina open to his predations has expanded in every direction.

[–]Bhorzo 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Our definitions do vary - as I define alpha as (basically) social power - and I consider sexual success as simply one of many positive side-effects of being alpha, not the definition of alpha itself.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

So... social networking like Facebook then. Lame as hell? Beta as shit? Turn it into your own boys club and collect only phone numbers from women?

[–]Endorsed ContributorrebuildingMyself 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

There's ways to up your game on Facebook but it is nothing compared to real life gaming. Most of it involves making yourself look like an exciting attractive guy and never feeding women validation.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

it is nothing compared to real life gaming

I kinda would rather real-life gaming. Plus I don't want all the "noise" and temptation to run back to the blue pill.

[–]Endorsed ContributorrebuildingMyself 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Agreed. However, there are some "passive-game" benefits to maintaining a decent Facebook profile since most girls these days are FB junkies.

  1. Decent picture of you doing something fun/exciting (skydiving, wakeboarding, etc).
  2. Only pictures of you having a fun time with lots of people, pictures of you with three hot chicks, etc
  3. Maybe 1/week wall post involving something funny or cool picture upload.
  4. Don't ever initiate friend requests wtih random women. Let them add you (through tagged pictures, etc).
  5. Never comment on or like a girl's "validate-me" posts/pictures. I don't even do this to my g/f's pictures or posts. Her beta orbiters do that and I don't want myself associated with them at all. She earns my validation through real-life things that I like her doing.
  6. Only comment on/like your friend's posts/pictures. Keep your bro's up. Plus any hot girl stalking his profile will see your comments.
  7. Keep everything friend-only access except your profile pic.

When these girls stalk your profile, they'll see a high-value guy.

Like I said, it's "passive game" in the sense that you shouldn't consider it "gaming girls." No girl will want to sleep with you just because you had a cool post and she "liked it" but it does put you on her radar, so to speak. If they bite the bait (IM you), push quickly for a phone number and set up a proper meetup. The quicker you move offline, the better your chances.

tl;dr: Keep your FB clean and exciting just in case

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I mostly subtracted any local woman where I felt like I was a beta-orbiter. I'm a couple hours from Hollywood. So if she lived in that area and was a potential hookup, I kept her on board. Then there are some women that I've friendzoned and consider good friends - I kept them around too.

The result? About 30 FB friends left. And the realization that my logging in to FB in the past was 90% based on blue pill beta-orbiter habits. HOLY GOD was I ever that guy.

To be fair, men who are only interested in sex with a particular woman shouldn't be faking a friendship for months/years, hoping she'll give in at some point.

The problem is that they've been taught that this is how you do it. Media, women, and even older men teach young boys that the way to get a woman to love you (and thus reach that sexual relationship) is to start with the platonic one. They're not faking a friendship. They start with a friendship because they've been taught that there's where you have to start.

"If you're just looking for sex, there's a lot of more direct (and less deceptive) ways to get that." This is obvious to us who already accept red pill teachings, but not to those who dont.

I don't have much sympathy. I mean - you just have to observe the world around you for... hell, just a couple of days to realize that this is complete bullshit. If someone is 16, I can understand the misunderstanding - but there's no excuse for a grown adult male to think that this is a legit strategy.

This is obvious to us who already accept red pill teachings, but not to those who dont.

Even idiots can pick up chicks in a club, or hire a prostitute, if all they're looking for is sex. But you have to be a special kind of stupid to think that faking a long-term platonic friendship is your best bet for getting laid. (Though I agree that if you're looking for a long-term relationship with a woman... it's gonna be rough if you don't understand how things work.)

Some people are bad at observing the world man. Hell there are people who even now rail against this subreddit for the very same ideas you and I consider obvious. The world we live in eh?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

To be perfectly honest, true friendship between masculine men and feminine women is something relatively rare, I don't say it doesn't happen or not a good thing, but not really the norm.

Of course it happens between modern "unisex" people, but truly masculine men and truly feminine women are just so different that that difference either sparks an erotic attraction, or they just stay at best like buddies, acquaintances, not true friends.

I mean just because two people are intelligent and talk about interesting stuff for hours this is called a buddy in my vocab, not a friend.

[–]Elonine 11 points12 points13 points 12 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

They keep saying men who don't want to be just friends" are bad people. But what do they bring to the friendship table?

[–]Knight_of_autumn 22 points23 points24 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In my experience, girls who want to just stay friends with you by saying something like "I'm sorry, I see you as a friend" or "I do not want to ruin our friendship" are just saying "I'm just using you and giving back would really get in the way of that."

I have NEVER stayed friends with a girl who pulled that on me. The "I don't want this to ruin our friendship" line is an instant friendship ender to me.

[–]Ronfar 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Indeed. It's a one-sided relationship.

The reason why friend-zoning is hated is because it violates reciprocal altruism.

Maybe the girl in the post would understand if she was constantly fuck-buddy-zoned by guys she wanted relationships with, it would be the same thing but the other way around.

The worst "friend zone" story I've seen is how one of my old college acquaintances agreed to let a girl stay at his place in NY for the summer for her internship. One month in, he suddenly tells her that he has always been in love with her. She gave him the "Let's just be friends" speech, and he kept ranting to all the other guys about how she is just using him for his apartment. I was thinking, dude, she agreed to the internship only after securing a place to stay for free (living in NY would cost more than the internship pay, she would have went somewhere else if she didn't have a couch to crash on). And one month into the summer, it is going to be very hard to find a cheap sublet for the rest of the summer. She agreed to be his "girlfriend" after she sensed that he might kick her out, but they never had sex and she broke up with him after the summer. What did she bring to the table? Nothing much (she offered to clean and do other chores, but the guy didn't value that at all, he wanted a relationship). But pulling the switch isn't honorable either. The girl was terrified that she might be forced to choose between having sex with a guy she doesn't like or getting kicked out into the street.

Typically, in the "friend zone" relationship, the guy offers a lot of value and the girl offers what she thinks is valuable in return. Just because the guy doesn't care about what she offers, doesn't mean it takes zero effort on her part, because value is in the eye of the beholder. Often, the beta guy will pretend that he likes the stuff that the girl offers to her girlfriends/"gay best friend". Abruptly ending the trade agreement is pretty rude and robs the other party the opportunity cost of forming a more reliable relationship with another party.

Bottom line, don't be beta. State exactly what you want and show what you bring to the table. You might not come to an agreement with the other party, but at least nobody wasted too much time or money.

She knew he was into her from the beginning. That's why she could get free shit like that in the first place.

Girls always fucking know, they just make a big show of YOU being the bad guy so they can blame YOU instead of feeling guilty themselves for taking advantage of and exploiting a guy they know is orbiting them.

I have zero sympathy for girls who do that.

The girl was terrified that she might be forced to choose between having sex with a guy she doesn't like or getting kicked out into the street.

Bullshit, she knew she could manipulate him without sex and she did.

What's this about being on the street? Didn't she have a home to go back to? More female hyperbole.

She wanted the pussy pass of not paying rent, and then didn't want to pay with sex either. Finally she OFFERED to "clean up and do other chores".

What kind of friend was SHE? "Oh yeah I'll stay at your place for free and not clean up or do chores".

Bitches think that letting you be in their PRESENCE is more than enough payment for everything you are doing for them.

She offered to clean and do chores from the beginning before she moved there, and he offered her the couch. Home, for her, would be more than 1000 miles away from the internship that she agreed to work at.

Yes, she got the better end of the deal, but it doesn't matter if she got the better end of the deal. You've never gotten a good deal before? If you brought a car for cheap, the other guy can't show up and steal the tires back next month to make up for it. If a man agreed to do something and then abruptly changes to terms to the other party's disadvantage, then there is logical reason for the other party to be upset. To argue otherwise would be hamstering in reverse. I'm not saying that the girl in my example is a good person, but the guy isn't a good person either. It is a matter of opinion, but I'd argue that the guy is at greater fault than the girl in that situation. If you promise something, you do it.

And did he actually say "have sex with me or you're on the street?"

after she sensed that he might kick her out

So, apparently not.

And he obviously didn't.

Why exactly is he a bad person again?

Sounds like you're friends with the girl and got her side of the story.

You'd think after several dozen examples she would get it. Few, if any, men are interested in being "just friends". Then I read this

but i didn’t mind because it was attention and i liked attention

and it all made sense

They're all the same. AND they don't see a problem with this.

Classic case of a tomboy who wants to be friends with a lot of guys, but gets annoyed when any of them show any sexual interest.

She needs to come to the reality that it's going to continue happening the more she befriends men/boys, especially since they have an active sex drive and it's much higher then her own.

You read the post, she is a raging lesbian, but apparently an attractive one.

She is just pissed she is losing all her beta orbiters

Are you going to tell me that MOST times this happens, the girls didn't know the guy liked them beforehand?

Girls can sense who likes them from a mile away. Don't play that bullshit with me.

This is what I tell most people.

My favorite comment "rejection doesn't make you a victim."

No shit Sherlock. Now spread the word among your fellow women so they stop saying men should accept them when they're fat, lazy, and/or offer nothing of value.

There is a lot less friendzoning then people actually think. Friends that are girls are fan-fucking-tastic. That is one the first things I do when I establish an away team. I don't go for an easy lay, I find a couple smart girls to entertain me while they introduce me to their lives and friends (the two in the kitty rule always plays lol). You snap-next girls who make you a plan B. That isn't the friend zone -- thats the fucking dungeon.

I love the friend zone, most girls I don't fall for to start with because unfortunately a pulse isn't enough for me, I require a modicum of intelligence to find a girl attractive and most chicks I meet are just fucking dumb as shit/extremely ignorant. If I do like a girl I make her prove herself to me by friendzoning her first and telling her she's not my type and playing sarcastic asshole game on her.

You can read that and judge me and think I'm a cunt or bitter or whatever shit that immediately comes to mind... but the irony is my experience has taught me if you seek a relationship you never get it, she'll just friend zone you because you seem needy or too available or w/e, if you're a dick and keep the right distance the same girl who'd not want you now wants you to commit to a relationship because she perceives you through a different lense. It's so fucked up.

Or she subconsciously (or consciously I guess) thinks that she has "won" you. She always wants to "win" and if she can change your mind from not wanting her, she feels she has won.

Fuck.

For me the "friend zone" was this imaginary place I heard about in high school that after a small amount of experience with women turned into this really dumb position guys put themselves in by not being direct enough in their relationships/conquests.

I really don't understand how people can find it rewarding to pretend to want to be friends if they really want something else. Guys who do this have the most confusing "game" ever.
