I agree with trans fats, and if you're having trouble with losing weight the rest is good advice.

I've seen the WHO listings for carcinogens that list processed meat at the same level as many non-edibles like plutonium. I would like to know how they came to this conclusion. Is that metric made according to the number of people it effects? The severity on an individual's health? or some other factor(s)?

The most convincing evidence I have seen is the similarities between our digestive systems and oral structure to other primates. Gorillas' diets consist of over 95% plant matter. They aren't meant to handle significant amounts of meat intake at all, similar to humans.

All of that said, I still eat meat, processed or otherwise. I feel great, work out twice a day most days, and control my weight whether bulking or cutting very well. If I listened to every documentary, video, and paper that I've seen I'd eat nothing except locally sourced, farm raised vegetables or what I could grow myself. Maybe that is healthier, maybe it's another dieting "fad" that will morph and change like the fight between low fat and low carb diets. So long as I keep my weight in check and feel good day-to-day I'll keep things as they are.

Agree with all of it, EXCEPT the artificial sweeteners. There is no evidence that they have any negative health impact (sucralose/aspartame/stevia/xylitol/etc), all of the "studies" that claimed so were not controlling for cofactors and covariables (i.e. that most people taking diet soda would be disproportionately fat compared to the population of skinny people/healthy people drinking normal soda).

In studies that controlled for lifestyle, artificial sweeteners were found to be perfectly safe:

Just FYI. 67% of people who use artificial sweeteners have diabetes. It's not that 67% of people used artificial sand then suddenly developed type II. No, they were already at major risk for it and tried to assuage the issue with artificial sweeteners. What kind of healthy person goes to artificial sweeteners?

And, for cooking with butter use Ghee. It's commonly used in Indian cooking, and is clarified butter (contains little or no water). It doesn't burn at higher temperatures like regular butter does, and also doesn't go rancid if not refrigerated.

High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) Cheap grocery store foods - cereals, sauces, sodas etc. Top tip: read the label make sure this isn't on it and that sugar isn't in the top 5 ingredients.

Seed And Vegetable Oils Movie popcorn, fried food, buffalo wings, anything fried at an eatery that doesn't require you to wear a jacket.

Artificial Sweeteners Anything that says "diet" or "low calorie" or "zero" in the label.

Processed Meat Think ANY fast food burger/taco place, grocery store hamburger meat, hot dogs, pepperoni, salami etc... Don't get suckered by "organic" when it comes to meat ----->any red meat you're eating should say "grass fed".

Trans fats Hydrogenated Oil, partially-hydrogenated oil, palm oil, ----if you see this shit in the label put it down.

**** ALL FAST FOOD HAS PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED OIL IN IT with the exception of a places like Chipotle. If you go to a eatery that has a drive-thru you are doing it wrong.

In the Multiethnic Study of Atherosclerosis, daily consumption of diet drinks was associated with a 36% greater risk for metabolic syndrome and a 67% increased risk for type 2 diabetes.

That could be correlation-causation thing.

Those consuming such drinks probably consume plenty of other processed stuff, maybe even more than otherwise, because "you did your part making "healthier" choice, now a cheat meal or ten"

And not sure if HFCS is any worse for you, gram-per-gram, than table sugar. Quantities consumed are the important thing.

If you're trying not to get fat, then focus on your caloric intake.

There is nothing wrong with HFCS. Your body recognizes it as a carbohydrate and digests it accordingly. The problem with it is it's very easy to over consume which leads to a surplus in calories and thus leading to fat gain.

Artificial sweeteners arent really bad for you either. In fact you would literally drown yourself in (insert diet soda here) before you would get any where close to any health effects.

In my opinion, as long as you keep your weight in check, exercise consistently, eat your fruits and vegetables, and eat plenty of fiber you'll be healthy.

Please spare my first uni college physiology, but HFCS being high in fructose is more likely to be transported and stored in the liver for glycogen formation. Regular glucose does not stop at the liver and is made into mostly muscle ATP sources or glycogen in the muscle.

Our liver can only store so much glycogen, 30-50 grams, where after some will be used for atp formation etc, but the remaining is easily converted into triglycerides (fat in your body)

Unsaturated fat will react with heat over time and become trans fat. So that oil in that fryer of that restaurant's trans fat concentration increases with the age of the oil.

ALSO!

Companies are allowed to put 0 on nutritional facts for anything that is below 1! So if your nutritional facts on that Twinkie says 0g trans fat, it could be 0 to 0.9 trans fat depending on how the company chose to label it

I'm eating tons of processed meat (steaks) because it's very convenient (basically one steak is 200cal, 15g proteins so it's very easy to track.)

Is that 1A carcinogen thing serious ? Because getting meat directly from the butcher seems to cost a lot more and isn't as convenient imo.

Anyone knows how serious of a threat this is ?

Everything you said bout HFCS is wrong and based on 1980's and 90's research that's been misquoted and taken out of context.

There are two base sugars are one complex one. The first base is fructose, which is fruit sugar, the exact same that's inside Apples, Bananas, Oranges and suchs. The second base is glucose, which is vegetable starch sugar, it is whats inside potatoes and pretty much all other vegetables. The complex one is sucrose which is naturally found in sugar cane and sugar beats. It's a combination of both fructose and glucose.

Now where does HFCS come in all this? HFCS is just sucrose that's been created by applying enzymes to corn starch to convert some of the glucose into fructose. It's the exact same as sucrose but much cheaper to manufacture because of corn vs sugar cane / beats along with various US tariffs on foreign sucrose. In order to prevent those same tariffs and depression era quotas being applied, the creator decided to name it High Fructose Corn Syrup. It's just glucose that's been converted into fructose to raise it's sweetness because fruits are sweeter then a potato.

As for that original research, it was about the over consumption of both HFCS and regular sucrose being potential causes for a rise in obesity. Later in 2007 the WHO and later in 2009 the AMA, both found the original studies to be invalid as they didn't control for lifestyle differences.

Consuming lots of carbohydrates is bad, that's all that needs to be said, no spreading false information.

Been telling motherfuckers about this shit. Glad to see someone else in the know; I've improved my Omega 6:3 to ~1:1.5, and can both feel and see a tremendous difference.

I don't eat any foods with added sugar, and limit my natural sugar intake for post-workout nutrition only (so, 4 times/week). I've cut bread carbs out and don't eat any high GI tubers, eating turnip in place of both sweet and normal potatoes.

Not sure why this post is being downvoted, but I'm glad it's made some people mad.

Whey Protein Shake - 8am

Greek Yogurt / Granola - 10:30am

1lb chicken breast / half cup brown pasta - 1 pm

Oatmeal - 4pm
