Throughout our evolutionary history, tribes have had a need for risk takers, warriors, men who are willing to put their lives on the line in order to give their tribe an advantage. That’s not to say we didn’t need men who were a bit more risk averse, and less willing to take seemingly “unnecessary” risks. If the tribe lost some of the more aggressive and fearless men in a daring raid or venture, you still needed men to do the heavy lifting and provide for the women/children. Everyone has a part to play.

However, those same risks takers are more likely to die younger, which would tend to endanger the survival of this beneficial trait. This is where women do those men a solid (and the tribe in general). Nature has “selected” for women who drip wet for dangerous risk takers in order to compensate the risk of an early death with greater and more immediate access to vagina. This of course is a significant factor in the development of female hypergamy.

Cultivating some high risk activities and hobbies can greatly benefit your SMV – martial arts, firearms, motorcycles, fast cars, skydiving, rock climbing, skiing/snowboarding, physical sports, pilot license, poker/gambling, gymnastic ability, to name a few. And oh yeah, those things are badass and hella fun in and of themselves. Even drugs, tattoos, and a heavy beard can enhance that perception, just so long as you’re not using them like a padded bra for a lack of real masculinity.

I’m sure it’s nothing that hasn’t been said before, just sharing a thought I had this morning.

EDIT: After reviewing the comments, many have noted the logical and semantic problems with the evo-psyche reasoning presented (which is why it was just a thought not a comprehensive theory/hypothesis, and why I used quotation marks for natural "selection"). Nonetheless, I'm glad to see some critical thinkers out there. I didn't state it succinctly (or completely for that matter); but what I find most interesting is the balance of the needs/imperatives between individuals of each sex; and how that produced men who instinctively embrace risk taking, and women who instinctively desire dangerous/risk-taking personalities. It's an observation with some speculation, not a doctoral thesis.
