I stopped hiring guys who took adderal in college because they were completely incapable of keeping a schedule if they weren't actively on it.

Worse, if they did have a scrip and they ran out, they became insane bums until they got more.

Want better focus? Stop playing video games and watching porn and stick to working for your rewards.

[–]abdada6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

See my response to the OP's response to my comment.

I always "befriend" a new possible hire. Take them on a short 2-3 day vacation to surf or hunt or whatever. I get a good feel for a dude when we're active. I ask these questions.

[–]nomorelulu4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

This was my initial response. And tbh I was expecting this thread to say that taking Adderall is not Redpill because it isn't real. Relying on a drug to make yourself better is not real progress, and therefore is not RP.

[–]CptDefB0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

I don't get this, and for the record, I'm not looking to try and change your mind or argue a point or whatever. I will however, state a contrasting opinion using the 2nd person.

Do you lift? Do you drink whey protein? How about Creatine? Do you by chance follow that up with BCAAs or any other amino acid supplement? How about a nitrous oxide supplement for that pump action? Hell, do you take a multivitamin? Aspirin/Ibuprofen/Benadryl/Aleeve/etc?

All of these things are "not real" (as in, not found as is in nature), and yet people will classify some "not real" things as passable and some "not real" things as totally unacceptable, as if they don't come from the same methods of chemistry.

What's "real" is what exists. You can't "unreal" something just because it can't be picked off a tree/pulled out of the ground/killed and skinned. Well, you can, but that's like saying, "Here's this thing that helps people, but my feelings are saying it's "not natural" and no good... despite whatever trials, studies, and countless personal experiences (good or bad), that I can use to form an educated opinion."

This...

Relying on a drug to make yourself better is not real progress, and therefore is not RP.

... is dumb. It is. If you get sick, guess what doctors are going to use to make you better? Drugs. Can you walk through the woods and find these in nature? Not unless you're willing to lick a toad for your anesthetic.

So, people need to pull their heads out of the sand, realize that not everything synthetic is some sin against mother nature, and educate themselves so that they can have better opinions (and who knows, maybe even better experiences).

Just sayin.

[–]nomorelulu0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Adderall creates a false mental state, and therefore induces results that are not real. If you can't do your homework sober and rely on Adderall, that is not progress. If you can't do something without Adderall, you are not really doing it. I mean, yeah, technically you are physically doing it, but the act is tainted and you will not grow by using a drug as a crutch.

[–]CptDefB0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

a false mental state

What, exactly, is that? I'm specifically questioning the "false" part. Even a schizophrenic's reality is very real to that individual.

If you can't do your homework sober and rely on Adderall, that is not progress.

If my homework is done (necessary), and I retain even an ounce of info (not necessary, and not Addy related either, cram sessions are all about quick remember/quick forget), then what's the problem?

If you can't do something without Adderall, you are not really doing it.

Some people cannot, and I mean will not, without excessive kicking and screaming, even begin their day without coffee. But of course, that crutch is okay.

I'm not advocating drug abuse to the point of dysfunction. What I'm challenging however, is your moral high ground, because the hill is made of sand and easy to blow away.

[–]nomorelulu0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't have a "moral high ground" lol. Using Adderall to make up for personal shortcomings is weak; I know it, you know it, everyone knows it. You're nitpicking and disagreeing simply for the sake of disagreeing at this point. I'm starting to think you're taking this personally because you're that guy who can't do homework without Adderall.

[–]CptDefB0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

... lol?

I could point out how ridiculous those sentences are, but I get the feeling we're done here.

[–]abdada-1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

A lot of Dark Triad types keep trying to prove they're red pill when in reality they're just emotionally challenged losers who are making men the enemy in society rather than embracing their masculine role of leaders of men and builders of the best things in the world.

[–]NoRegretj[🍰] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This is entirely true but mostly because these dark triad types tend to be much less intelligent. Less interest in self preservation, but also far more masculine than most, while at the same time incredibly selfish and quick to turn to violence or more likely to lead a life of crime.

[–]abdada1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have no issue with guys who want to be Dark Triads, but I have nothing to do with them because they add absolutely zero value to ALL of my relationship markets.

The best I get out of Dark Triads is income and profit. And because they have short hair triggers, even that isn't worth dealing with them.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

yeah that's true.. if you're on it all weekdays and run out you will have shit for focus once it's really all out of your system... eventually you'll bounce back but i totally agree here... but a normally shit focus person on adderall could still compete with a top 10% tier focused person who is just sober... it really is a miracle drug...

but i find that you see all the angles as OP said but doing that can make you pissed off when you see when people are taking advantage of you.... and you're naturally more amped up anyway because of the drug so it fuels its own fire

[–]abdada2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Read my comment to the OP's response to my original comment.

Adderal cost me probably 6 figures and an entire business department. Fucking addicts.

[–]fjhlacrosse -7 points-7 points-7 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

There are a few things wrong with this scenario

  1. No one has to disclose adderall usage to employers (and why would you?)
  2. I've taken it for a little over a year and never "ran out"? It's called planning your trip to the pharmacy in advance and not being a dumbass and waiting until you've taken all of it.
  3. Pick your poison. Many adults in america choose coffee/cigarettes as a concentration mechanism. Adderall is FAR healthier than either...

[–]nofapoclock5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago [recovered] (0 children) | Copy Link

you're seriously trying to argue that taking an amphetamine is healthier than coffee?

[–]abdada3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Two years ago, one of my employees who I paid over $30,000 ($12,000 in costs and 75 hours of my actual time) to train on a new machine flipped out during work and destroyed said machine and then went ape shit in my break room.

After a lot of trying to figure out WTF went wrong with the dedicated and focused guy, I discovered it was stimulant psychosis -- he told me weeks later that he had run out of adderal. I spoke with some colleagues in my inner circle and many of them have experienced the same issue without realizing it's a real thing.

I don't hire a guy until I've come to know him awhile first. I already get upwards of 100 unsolicited job applications a week between my various businesses and prefer to hire people from word of mouth referrals and getting to know the person. If I find out they smoke pot, or drink excessively (even on their off time), or pop pills for so-called "stability", I want nothing to do with them.

All of my businesses have one goal: to train young dudes to be their own bosses and go off on their own. If a young dude is an addict, he's out. There is no chance I will accept an addict into any of my programs once you consider how much of my time and my money it costs to train people.

Of course, addicts will defend their addiction to their grave. Good luck with it.

P.S. I should mention that his destruction of my equipment led to an entire department getting shut down forever and a total loss of income and capital in the mid 5-figure range. Not to mention my reputation taking a strong hit. Fucking addict losers.

[–]foldpak1114 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This is the kinda shit I want to hear. The matrix put me on Adderall in 9th grade and I'll never forget it. Scum of scum

[–]abdada5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Sorry dude.

Adderal addiction is very tough to overcome but not impossible. I always recommend talking to a good drug therapist and working first at battling other addictive behaviors (alcohol, pot, video games, porn, even watching too much TV or listening to too much Spotify).

I've had exceptional luck with Rhodiola Rosea when working with addict customers -- short term use (2-3 weeks). Google abdada rhodiola rosea for my take on it. It's a great anti-anxiety supplement that has some benefit AFTER you've ended Adderral use. Never mix the two.

[–]fjhlacrosse -4 points-4 points-4 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Okay I see your thinking, finally.

You obviously work in something industrial. I would guess it's pretty blue collar. IN THIS SETTING, adderall may not be the right thing. In fact it IS dangerous.

However, one idiot wrecking a machine from ampthetamine withdrawal isn't indicative of the entire base of people who take it. Addy is primed more towards tedious tasks, where people like junior lawyers, students, and people that do grind work at a desk can benefit. So yes in your case of operating heavy machinery perhaps a stimulant isn't the best idea.

And lastly, it's adderall not your mom's fucking zoloft.

[–]abdada4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago [recovered] (6 children) | Copy Link

All of my businesses are blue collar focused with high consulting rates ($240/hour or more). Hence why they're "easy" to introduce new young bucks into at the labor end and quickly assess if they can handle the higher end consulting end of things. I am a very good judge of character, but adderal has thrown me off 3 times now.

Anything that screws with your brain hormones like Adderal is not something to take on a constant basis.

Adderal psychosis is real and there are a lot of stories about it.

The machinery I discussed was not heavy machinery at all -- it was a canvas photo printer that required no actual labor other than setting up files and monitoring print quality. When the repair guy came to try to fix it he told me it was a total and complete loss, and over 50 people came to look at it when I tried to sell it and no one even made an offer.

And I've had 3 Adderal psychosis events happen in the past 5 years. This was just the worst one.

[–]fjhlacrosse -2 points-2 points-2 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Then enforce a no adderall rule or something...Do what works for you. I'm just listing some benefits. You have a fixation on how "addy addict losers screwed over my business." Anecdotal at its finest

[–]abdada1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

I don't enforce any disclosed rules -- I interview the candidates personally and let them dig their own graves.

And it is NOT anecdotal, it's an ongoing problem that is only lately coming to light.

Addiction is not red pill. It's a cop out.

[–]fjhlacrosse -1 points-1 points-1 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It's not addiction. It's why would I stop taking it? There are few downsides for normal people...

[–]abdada6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

Did you read the link to the forum?

I'll make it easy for you:

  1. " Immediate cessation brought on a short period of hallucinations and a 6-month period of hearing voices constantly and having no ability to control them. I didn't feel like myself, it was horrible." link

  2. "she'd been on for 7 years and she got to the point where the effects were reversed and instead of getting things done and being able to concentrate and focus, nothing got done and she rarely left the house. She tried to stop taking the Adderall and even switched back to the XR but still ended up taking more than prescribed. The depression and psychosis was to the point that if she didn't take it she felt like she wanted to die and she could not even brush her teeth" link

  3. "You eventually become a zombie and you are ten times less productive and ten times more unhappy than you were to begin with. Especially for people with depression, this is a drug to generally avoid. Many people don't handle the psychological comedowns well, and may turn to other substances to ease the pain (such as benzos or opiates)." link

  4. "But she thought she heard noises in her apartment, and jolted awake. She didn't move in complete fear of someone actually being in the apt, just tried to listen for more sounds. " link

That's just the first page.

If you look up personal anecdotes to adderal psychosis, there are literally thousands of them. And most of these people are normal folks, not drug chased or pill crushers with other insanities.

Worse, a lot of people become so hooked to the normal prescribed dose that they can never get off of it, ever, because their brain's ability to naturally produce dopamine and serotonin gets shut down.

You are defending the indefensible. This is a sign of addiction.

[–]foldpak1110 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You feel like a god on it, and you become a social god, but coke does that too, and coke's bad.

[–]nofapoclock20 points21 points22 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Totally, what could go wrong with taking an amphetamine for years on end? Quit while you're ahead man, trust me. If you're gonna use, use it on special occasions only.

[–]fjhlacrosse -9 points-9 points-9 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

ahh that ship has sailed. I take it every day. And I am taking it to get ahead

[–]1RPB110 points11 points12 points 11 years ago [recovered] (0 children) | Copy Link

Been there; done that.

Since you compared Adderall to NZT I should remind you: in Limitless they crashed hard once they stopped taking it.

Taking it every day is excessive.

Sniper shots, not scorched earth.

[–]nofapoclock3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sure, you will get ahead for now. Let me guess - you're a sophomore or a junior in college? Only a matter of time until it will be a crutch. Hell, it probably already is a crutch. It will become a physical and mental addiction - there's no way around it.

Don't get me wrong - I LOVE taking adderall. It makes everything...well.. awesome and extremely interesting. It makes studying fun. Extroversion +500%. Confidence through the fucking roof. I agree that it is like the drug from limitless. I've taken 90 mg at a time, multiple times. However to think that taking adderall on the daily has zero negative consequences is just pure ignorance. I suggest cutting your pills in half to ween yourself down.

[–]1003rp1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm finding it interesting trp is so against adderal but whenever someone mentions steroids every is all for it. Steroids are way worse for you than low doses of adderal.

[–]H_to_Tha_OV7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Lemme guess...you just took your first script...

I'm not saying you'll downward spiral into sucking dick for blues...but it can turn you into a burned out zombie that is just as likely to hyperfocus on useless junk as they are to be productive. But it'll make you FEEL like everything in your post.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

No, just no. You do not take amphetamines and do sports. The potential of overheating is HUGE.

[–]fjhlacrosse -6 points-6 points-6 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I play d1 hs lacrosse on it every day...as does almost everyone else on my team. How else can you manage two a day practices with a full course load?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago [recovered] (0 children) | Copy Link

And I have combined xanax and alcohol before, a combination that is considered deadly. Depends on the amount you take but just because none of you had a stroke yet doesn't mean its safe. AT LEAST you should warn people that it can happen before you recommend taking adderall as a performance enhancing drug.

If you really want safe performance increase - LSD.

[–]684616748970514549800 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

...just study? Like you're already doing?

But instead of being like "oh i had some adderall now i can do my homework" be like "oh i need to do my homework or i'll fail"

you can get the same results and the same focus levels without adderall, but it's a skill you have to work on, one that you're better off learning now in high school while grades don't matter as much instead of having to figure it out in college or worse, later

[–]widec11 points12 points13 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Drugs can be useful, but the way you advocate it seems like you are using it as a crutch. The truth about stimulants is that tolerance builds rapidly and doesn't seem to ever return to baseline. The side effects increase greatly if you increase your dose to combat the tolerance. They're not for daily use, but if you can take adequate vacations from the drug, never exceed your regular dose and not use it daily, it can be a good tool.

Also, do not do any heavy exercise on stimulants. Healthy people have died from heart attacks because they took stimulants before weight lifting or running. It's very easy to overwork your body on stimulants, the pain response is built into your body for a reason.

[–]thedude1224872 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wanna develop a massive drug problem? Start taking Adderall when you don't need it for a legitimate medical purpose!

[–]StyleandSpeed3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I ate right and took Ritalin at the right time of the day and felt like a god. Built good physique too. But damn it takes a toll one you after a while. I like to cycle it for a week then be natty for three.

[–]ulyssesss4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Mixed reactions on here. So another data point from someone that is prescribed adderall.

I got accepted into a highly competitive tech sales program after college. The program was an intense year long program with a 25% attrition rate. If you made it through the program you'd be set up with a $120k salary to start.

I've always had a lack of focus and a shitty memory but I skated through an engineering degree in college because things came natural to me.

Well I hit a wall in this program.. we had to go to technical training from 9-5 Mon - Thurs, and Friday would be test day; technical test, technical presentation and sales role play. Everyone was graded and ranked. And they didn't fuck around. Bottom 10% was always at risk of getting fired. For the first time I was struggling. In class I got the concepts, but then we would have to go home and read like 40 pages of technical shit (think computer engineering and computer science) for the next day of class. I couldn't sit down and read it. In college I had taken adderall a handful of time during finals and it worked for me. So I went to the doctor and told him I couldn't focus, I get easily distracted and what not. Bingo. Prescribed adderall. It worked like a charm for me.

10 years later and I still take it. I've moved up in my career faster than my peers in the sales program and I get paid a lot more than I should. I no doubt owe a good portion of my success to adderall. Does that make me feel bad that I need a drug to be successful? Not even a little. Use all the tools that are available to you, I say.

Words of wisdom,

  • Adderall does different things to different people.
  • Don't tell people you take adderall. People will judge you or ask you for pills.
  • Don't take adderall on weekends, vacations or if you don't have a lot of shit to get done .. this is so your body doesn't develop a tolerance for it.
  • Don't take any after 11am and XR is for bitches. (this is for me.. it would fuck with my sleep schedule)
  • Don't take adderal to workout - that's stupid. Treat it like a mental enhancer, not a physical enhancement.
  • Don't take any while drinking - why would you?
  • Yes, you're not going to get hungry. Drink lots of water.
  • Respect that it's a drug and it's effects can be addictive. Every year go 10 days straight without taking it i.e Christmas break or vacation.

[–]TRPthrowaway1121 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I personally could not stand Adderall when I was perscribed it, rather than feeling the coked out focused feeling I just felt like coming down off of a mad coke binge for hours.

Also to add whenever my gf would take Adderall it was like she had just done crystal meth and was cranked out beyond belief.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I was prescribed ritalin then adderall in high school. It's really not that much different than coke and meth, especially at first before tolerance builds up. Yeah I lost weight, but I wouldn't recommend you take it for that reason, you risk fucking up your metabolism. I suppose it help me socially, but only because I'm introverted and it turned me into a bably crack head. Motivation - great for when you need to get a lot of mundane shit done, but not so much for things like experiencing stuff and studying. I don't recall having more or less empathy. As far as lifting more it's probably better to be able to lift more without it. If your body would be signalling to you that you need to rest but you're jacked up on adderall that could lead to bad things like injury, cortisol increasing, testosterone decreasing, ect. There are times in life where it could be a very useful resource, it's just not for me.

There is one drug I regularly take and thats modafinil. It's sorta like ritalin and adderall except I physically don't get jacked up and my mind doesn't race. Hard to explain, it's like I'm super awake but calm. It's great for when I have mentally taxing stuff to do, or need to exercise my critical thinking and I need to focus. No side affects other than insomnia if I take it too late. Again useful as a tool, I don't take it every day.

[–]fjhlacrosse 2 points2 points2 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

modafinil! I am interested, but how does one acquire this

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago [recovered] (0 children) | Copy Link

I started years ago by first getting a script from a doctor then filling it with a Canadian pharmacy (who required a doctor's scrip). Then I decided to just order from an Indian pharmacy, no scrip. I would recommend next time you see your doctor asked if he has Provigil samples to see if it's for you. If you can't get insurance to cover it (which they probably won't) then get it from an overseas pharmacy. The difference in costs is like $1/pill vs $30/pill.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Modafinil is really mild, nothing like amphetamines.

You should know that amphetamines are neurotoxic, it's better to use methylphenidate if possible (ritalin).

[–]AntixD0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

modafinilcat,google it,they also have a subreddit here,Purchased from them,highly recommended

[–]GoldenCocaine1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If adderall works for you, then great.

It doesn't for me though. It makes me miserable, skinny, and unhealthy. But everyone is different. If I was naturally fat and needed motivation then I would probably worship adderall lol.

Point of the post -- there are many substances out there that if used correctly and responsibly, they will help improve and enhance your life circumstances. Whether it is adderall, xanax, weed, whatever. Use intelligently.

Or you could meditate. Adderall is a couple molecules off of speed.

Don't you need a prescription to get adderall?

Like I said, find a doctor that specializes in "adult add." Say you have trouble focusing/low motivation and boom, script

This is total shithouse advice. If you prescribe yourself you're a total douchebag!

Please TRP guys: be informed before you start self-medicating….

Taking amphetamines is Red Pill? Fuck that shit. Drug dependencies are for losers. Stop being a clown.

Don't forget it doubles the amount of time it takes you to finish... Something about numbing your dick makes me think it's not worth the extra few reps

this is a very tempting road for me - I have incredible difficulty focusing on mundane tasks...so much so that it has harmed my performance and how I was perceived at some jobs...nobody cares if you are the smartest guy on the team if you can't even get your simple deliverable items handled.

your description of it seemed to good to be true, and after doing some research I think I will have to stick to what I was doing - turning to an organizational system and turning off the music while working

As an ADHD diagnosed person that is now quitting adderall after less than a year on it, my advice is "skills not pills." I personally found adderall to initially be helpful, but counterproductive after I built a tolerance and my dopamine regulators adjusted.

For me, it made hyperfocus a real problem. Also, it made me "overdo" even the simplest of mundane tasks. Boss wants a spreadsheet tomorrow? He'll get the best friggin spreadsheet of all time because I'm staying up until midnight to revolutionize the format!!!! Anything is possible qith the new spreadsheet!!!! Next day - I don't exist, but Adderall has possessed my body and makes me moderately productive.

Plus the bruxism and muscle tightness - make sure you get magnesium and a mouth guard. Don't drink water, drink Mios, or else you'll just piss all day.

I got off on a tangent there - but the best bet is to get a therapist and work through your specific ADHD issues. Adderall can help you complete mundane tasks, but also exacerbate perseveration and tendencies to "specialize" a task just to complete it.
