An acquaintance who I've met maybe 4 or 5 times messaged asking for a favor: she asked me to revise her research paper. Now, I do that professionally for $75+/hour. I'm always willing to help out a friend with a short cover letter or bio in exchange for coffee, but this is no trifling job and she is no friend of mine; I barely know her, so there's no guarantee she'll ever take me out.

So I politely said I don't work for free and offered her a nice discount, and she curtly said "I'll ask someone else." Women are shameless in asking for free shit. If there's nothing in it for you and you know the person won't reciprocate out of the goodness of their own heart, then say no.

How much respect does she have for me as a professional? Zero

How much do I owe her as an acquaintance? Also zero.

Is she mad? Probably not. She will likely find some sap who doesn't know what he's doing to do it for free.

Meanwhile, I'm earning $75/h in my sweatpants and have one less problem to deal with. Life is good.
