It's the holidays, which means lots of parties, office events, pub crawls, Santa runs, etc. This means plenty of opportunities to get laid, but it also offers a unique situation in which you are "committed" for the night to a single group of people, most of whom you barely know.

Examples: online meetups, house parties, friends-of-friends party, group pub crawl, graduation party, Couchsurfing meetup, etc. Basically any "private" event or outing. Not an open environment like a club, bar, sporting event, etc.

These situations are potential gold mines as you have somewhat increased social proof (due to knowing others there) & increased license to initiate (it's a planned event so, you're meant to interact with the group). So you can easily meet many girls within a short time period with ease.

On the other hand, they can be deathtraps because they can be logistical nightmares in terms of isolation & bouncing of your target.

This is problem I have termed: herd resistance

Herd resistance is when you encounter late resistance in one of these group settings due to a girl's perceived obligation to the "group". Basically, the girl has become beholden/attached to the larger group. She feels an obligation to her friends she came with as well as to her "new friends" she made that night ("Omgz that one guy said he knows a really good bar! Shouldn't we go?!"). This is a problem because it becomes harder to isolate your target to further increase attraction/kino (She doesn't want to leave her friend's table; She is "so busy" meeting/talking to other people at the party; etc). It also adversely affects your opportunity to bounce her back to your place because she has tons of other people chatting her up & distracting her.

It's the same resistance lions encounter when hunting herding animals. Lions hunt by isolating their target. They don't take on the herd as a whole.

A couple other unique things relating to herd resistance:

1) Resistance you encounter from girls in clubs/bars is different from herd resistance in a group setting. Whereas girls in bars/clubs put up much stronger initial resistance (to being opened), closing a girl in a bar/club is easy since everyone is anonymous and there's no obligation to stay. On the other hand, in group settings, it's actually easier to open & develop your targets in group settings due to the social atmosphere, but much harder to close them out (for the reasons I stated above).

2) Herd resistance may be fueled by the sausage fest that is random group outings. Lots of these "meetups" and house parties have a skewed gender ratio. This is fine at a bar because you can just leave and find a better one. But when you RSVP or commit to some party (often with friends), you must make it work. Further, hot girls will find themselves being validated/hit on by every guy in the party, which will make it harder to isolate her.

I would like to hear suggestions/discussion on strategies on this topic. I simply wrote this up so as to clearly identify this for people. It's definitely a real thing. I'll post my own take on it as a comment to avoid a wall-of-text
