Yeah, it's telling how they flip flop when the situation changes. Like there was a motion to illegalise sex selective abortion in Canada, specifically so girls wouldn't be aborted, and feminists opposed that.

There are actually many reasons this is superior to the pill:

1, It puts men in control of their own reproductive destiny - no more "I forgot to take it-s" or intentional trapped-by-pregnancy

2, The pill has a rare but serious side effect on some women that can cause serious medical complications

3, The pill tends to make women gain weight

The only problem with Vasagel is that it will dial sexual behavior back to the 1960s, with a new generation of men feeling wildly liberated, free from the risk of partner pregnancy - but more than ever still threatened by bad strains of HPV, antibiotic resistant gonorrhea, herpes and HIV.

Bottom line, Vasagel will create an option for people in a stable relationship. It is NOT a magical one night stand solution, unless you don't value your health of the ability to have future relationships.

The pill also changes the hormones in a woman's body, to the point where she prefers a different type of guy. I wouldn't be surprised if that contributed significantly to the divorce rates. Guy and a girl decide to get married, she gets off the pill after a year because they want to conceive. Suddenly, she loses her attraction for him and the marriage goes to shit.

Vasalgel + condoms for ONS. Condoms are shit the break or otherwise fail at a high percentage, plus if you aren't careful you can still get spermjacked.

With Vasalgel good luck stealing that Jimmy hat because it's filled with blanks

Call me paranoid but after sex I goto the bathroom, take the condom off there, fill it with water to make sure it didn't break, empty it out, wrap it up with tissue paper and bury it in the garbage. All the semen is washed out, the condom is intact, and it's hidden.

It doesn't give power. Women still can name you as the father - even if you're not. Try telling the judge - 'hey but I was on a pill'. Sure in some countries you can get a DNA test, but that's not the case everywhere

We're already there with vasectomy. Vasalgel is just an alternative that's not permanent, but just as invasive. That's what nobody is talking about, they still have to take a knife to your balls to get at the vas. It's that reason I'm starting to think this won't take off like many are assuming.

Instead of the vas deferens being cut and cauterized (vasectomy) , a polymer is injected. The polymer coats the vas, and sperm that passes through is inactivated.

If you're looking at invasiveness for the benefits, you'll only see a marginal improvement with vasalgel/RISUG, but an improvement nonetheless.

What is really improved:

1) Better odds of reversibility. This means reproduction may truly be under a man's control. Bank some sperm as well, and all bases are covered.

2) Sperm exit is not occluded; instead, sperm are inactivated. With vasectomy, the sperm gets blocked from exit. The body forms an immune response to your own sperm in order to clear them out. The full ramifications of an autoimmune response to your own sperm are not well understood, but it's definitely not in our favor.

I just posted a comment about how this might cause the same anti-sperm antibodies as a vasectomy, but this is confirmed to not cause this problem? This (or a similar) procedure has been available in India for over a decade, so I'm sure the studies are fairly conclusive.

Actually, I'm not sure. Vasalgel's website explanation is entirely different from the wikipedia page.

I would need accurate information before making the assessment.

Vasalgel's page says the injection blocks sperm from exiting.

Everything else I've read related to the procedure have said sperm exit but are inactivated (polymer affects the charge, resulting in an inability to penetrate ovum).

The difference is incredibly important. The autoimmune response occurs in vasectomy because the sperm are blocked and have no where to go, and the body then recognizes them as an intruding organism instead of self.

RISUG has been available for over a decade, but it took two decades for researchers to confirm that vasectomies increase risk of aggressive prostate cancer, particularly in younger men.

Maybe that depends on how much sex is going to happen. If I know I want to have a ton of sex with some near-longterm girls but not so many I'm a magnet for HIV then it might be a nice option. Since a vasectomy is near-permanent a lot of doctors don't want to do it. This means they have no excuse to turn down a patient saying "you'll want to have children later".

That's my call & the doctor shouldn't be telling me what I want. I get that the doctor has the freedom to choose not to do it but it's a piss-poor reason. If I want babies so bad I'll find a way to freeze the sperm for later but prevent oopsies-pregnancy-traps.

I think it's an outpatient procedure that requires 5 minutes and a needle injection into your vas.

They have to cut you open to get to the vas, then it's a stitch to close it back up. If they can do the procedure without the cutting, then this could indeed become the holy grail it's being presented as.

Well I for one have no interest in being among the first wave of guys to get polymer compounds injected into their genitals. I'll sit back and see how that one goes before I jump on board. Condoms are at least a risk I'm familiar with.

The only thing to consider here with this procedure, if you plan on having children, is this could cause problems of a similar nature to a vasectomy. I'm not entirely sure on the science, but vasectomies can cause anti-sperm antibodies to attack and weaken the sperm; making vasectomy reversals potentially worthless due to sterility.

I'm not sure what causes the anti-sperm antibodies to appear after a vasectomy, maybe it's the trauma of the surgery, or perhaps it's something else. But I'd be careful to research this procedure and it's affects on your sperm before having it done if you wish to have children. This might be easy to investigate since this (or a similar) procedure has been legal and widely available in India and other parts of the world for over a decade.

EDIT: this might not be a problem after all. But be certain you research for yourself.

Unfortunately not! RISUG is not yet on the market in India, and clinical trials of RISUG are only for Indian men who live near the study sites. We don’t know when RISUG’s developers will get it to market, although as of mid-2014 there is talk of doing a large trial/monitored release in several districts, with the hope of integrating it into the family planning program by the end of 2015. So if you live in one of those areas in India, you’re in luck! But otherwise, Vasalgel is your best bet and we hope for your support.

This is a tool for men in LTRs who wish to control fertility. It has no comparison to the females getting the condom. That enabled them to fuck all and sundry with no risk of pregnancy, effectively removing any need to select mates with any care.
