As a fellow graduate of 'fuck it' academy, it's almost laughable how often I stepped on my own dick in the past, instead of playing to win.

I read a book by Wall Street Playboys recently where they said "break the rules, don't break the law." I never took the time to think about distinguishing between them but those words immediately made so much sense to me.

Rules are really just abstract societal constructs put in place to make most people feel comfortable and safe. A recent example is the unspoken rule that anyone and everyone should go to college. There's such a huge expectation to do this that if you 'break the rules' and do something else, you're stigmatized by society. It's important to understand that this is a good thing because most people can't function without structure from someone else.

If you're in your early twenties, you know what I'm talking about. If you have any friends that decided to skip college... What are they doing now? Most are probably working shitty jobs in the food, retail, or general service industry. They couldn't figure out an alternative to college that will let them win. They broke the rules, but they weren't prepared with a better alternative.

Ironically enough though, to get ahead, you must break the rules, because that's the thing that will set you apart. If everyone else is following the rules (getting married young, having babies by 28-30) and you instead focus on building your SMV, having fun, and making money... You'll be fucking mid-twenty year old girls in your fifties. I've seen this with my mentors time and time again. You're breaking the rules, but this time, it benefits you.

In art, most masterpieces are so memorable because they break the rules. But the immortal artists we remember today were able to get away with breaking the rules because they understood them. Ultimately, that's the difference between the 23-year-old Burger King acquaintance and the 53-year-old multimillionaire mentor, both college dropouts.

Note that this isn't an endorsement to dropout of college. For people who don't know how to break the rules it's practically mandatory unless you want to live a disadvantaged life.

Rules, rules, rules...

I've heard this term all of my life and yet when i've ask why society follows these "rules" as a kid and even today, you run into blank faces and stumbling over their words, mumbling something along the lines of "That's just how it is".

Bill Gates, broke the rules (Dropped out of college early). Steve Jobs, broke the rules (Ditto). Kevin Spacey broke the rules (Told Julliard to go fuck themselves) Lance Armstrong broke the rules (Got caught for doping sure but still a great man). America's Founding Fathers broke the rules (Nuff said). Kennedy family, broke rules and look what they achieved. The list goes on...

Point is, no great men have ever followed rules. Most have broken laws, some got caught and punished BUT they still went down in the history books for generations to come to love/hate their name.

I'd love to be famous, i'd get a hard on to be infamous but i dread to be forgotten

Good post. If you're reading TRP, you're already taken at least the first step breaking the rules.

I'll throw in my 3 cents.

First penny:

Don't play by Goliaths rules. Those rules arent real and they are in place to ensure that you fail.

Goliath's rules aren't necessarily put in place to ensure you fail, but they will ensure that:

You serve Goliath
You never surpass Goliath

Second penny:

Given the point below of breaking the rules but not the laws, I'd go one step further: go ahead and break the laws as long as you know what you're doing. After all, many laws are just arbitrary and meaningless rules that are enforced by the state. An example: frickin' oral sex was against the law in many states until 2003. You read that right: there were laws against oral sex in the 21st century. Again, I should emphasize that you should know what you are doing. Know the risks and penalties that come with breaking the law. Related: you're probably already breaking the law multiple times per day as outlined in the book Three Felonies A Day.

Third penny:

Related to the last point of knowing the laws: master the rules before you break them. Know what the rules are, why they are in place, what the consequences are if you're caught breaking them, and how to break them to your benefit. Don't be an idiot and just break rules willy-nilly. In other words, follow the rules until you know how to break them.

Good post and a brief summary Of Nietzsche's Philosophy for those who are not informed: Nietzsche championed two different ideals in master morality and slave morality. He supposed that slave morality held virtues such as pity, patience, humility, honor, and other such qualities in order to survive against the pressures of existence and suffering. It is their way of coping with the fact that they have no power. Master morality is in essence, the will to power, where the individual holds the power. In the case of master morality and slave morality, the master makes the rules because they have the power to do so, and the slaves allow the rules to dictate who they are, instead of defining themselves. If you understand Nietzsche, TRP becomes painfully obvious in its ways and mirrors the master morality nearly identically. Break the rules and make your own.

I'm going to challenge your post. Not the part about not playing by the rules, the part about seeing yourself as david(TM) fighting Goliath. That is a failed self image. You are little ole victim david fighting BIG BAD GOLIATH, the omega chosen one by GOD that didn't put in the work other than dicking around with a slingshot? That's like the fat woman who buys an exercise bike after seeing a 2 AM infomercial. She buys in to the idea that 'I'm going to ride that exercise bike after work for an hour before I turn on the TV every day till I'm thin and no one can stop me.' because she forever can't be bothered thinking how her muscles, internal image or exercise works.

You aren't david. You are GOLIATH. You are GOLIATH because you lifted, groomed, internalized some social skills, how to gracefully deal with failure and unexpected embarrassing situations. You also did your homework. You've come to SLAY. You don't even notice david, and if he gets in your face you don't fathom playing by the rules david is projecting, so being sure you 'don't play by david's rules doesn't cross your mind, you are not in david's frame. If david gets a shot on you, you aren't dead because you didn't arrogantly push back your helmet and laugh at david opening a window of vulnerability (Rule #[i just made up]: you don't expose a window of vulerability just before the moment of victory). If david bests you you don't double down and grovel. You signal 'touche' and leave to conquer your next day, because this fight doesn't have to be between two drama queens.

It sounds nice but in the end of the day I don't really understand what you are talking about. I mean, "play the game to win rather than by the rules": what rules are you talking about?

Ithe longer I frequent TRP the more I get the impression that it's a place for people just trying to escape from themselves. This kind of post frames it pretty well: it gives you the impression that society is somehow forcing you to live in a certain way "by the rules", while the only rule in place is the LAW. Beside that, everything else is just a collection of bullshit and mindgames and, more often than not, we are the one imposing that to ourselves. You talk about FR as things done "looking for ways to challenge the conventional way of doing things" when in fact it's the exact opposite: if you want to get some pussy that is EXACTLY THE CONVENTIONAL WAY OF DOING THINGS and things has be done that way form the beginning of times.

I think a more appropriate message would be that you should respect the rules to win and that you can't bullshit your way trhough life and, more importantly, do not impose to yourself rules that don't exsists, that are probably the bullshit values that your mothers drilled into your brains (for example the typical neckbeard bullshit/white knight stuff).

I don't buy this "me vs the world"/"outsmart the world" thing that you are suggesting, you are part of this world, not against it.
