So you saw a Buddha quote and it spoke to you in some way. Maybe you enjoy philosophy, and you've noticed the parallels between Buddhism, Stoicism, and Existentialism. Maybe you love meditation and reading the Dhammapada.

Fine! Great! If you get something out of it, that is good. If you find insight in it, that is good. We have to take wisdom wherever we find it.

BUT don't make the mistake of thinking Buddhism has anything to do with TRP and its philosophy. The two are fundamentally antithetical to each other.

Here are some of the things the Buddha taught, tell me if this sounds like TRP:

"There is no satisfying sensual desires, even with the rain of gold coins. For sensual pleasures give little satisfaction and much pain."

"One is the quest for worldly gain, and quite another is the path to Nibbana. Clearly understanding this, let not the monk, the disciple of the Buddha, be carried away by worldly acclaim, but develop detachment instead."

"Giving up sensual pleasures, with no attachment, let the wise man cleanse himself of defilements of the mind."

"To have much wealth and ample gold and food, but to enjoy one's luxuries alone — this is a cause of one's downfall."

"Not to be contented with one's own wife, and to be seen with harlots and the wives of others — this is a cause of one's downfall."

"Though being well-to-do, not to support father and mother who are old and past their youth — this is a cause of one's downfall."

"To deceive by falsehood — this is a cause of one's downfall."

"To be of noble birth, with vast ambition and of slender means, and to crave for rulership — this is a cause of one's downfall."

"For so long as the underbrush of desire, even the most subtle, of a man towards a woman is not cut down, his mind is in bondage, like the sucking calf to its mother."

If a poster tried to make an OP arguing any of these points they would get a swift kick out the door. TRP does not teach detachment. TRP does not teach that desire is the root of suffering. TRP does not advocate a moral concern for others/society.

Buddhism is not TRP. Keep it away from this sub.

EDIT: By the way, I think it absolutely hilarious when I get down-vote spammed and not a single person can articulate a legitimate reason for all the hate.
