"It is one thing for an accused sexual assailant to remain silent and allow the legal process, or public opinion, to run its course, but it is quite another for him to unleash his agents to deny that he attacked the plaintiff and other women, to invite others to republish his statements, and to brand them as unreliable liars."

Kristina Ruehli is one of the women who accused Bill Cosby of rape, which she claims happened nearly 50 years ago. When Cosby had the nerve to defend himself, she found the money to hire a lawyer and filed a lawsuit.

In the US, truth is considered an absolute defence to allegations of libel and slander, but Cosby could now be in the difficult position of proving the truth of his statements, rather than requiring a woman to prove her claim of rape.

Remember, it can happen to anyone. Be careful out there.
