Yesterday I learned that my break up from my ex girlfriend was not as smooth and clear as I always thought it had been. I learned that she actually started dating another guy while we were still together, then broke up with me, then kept sleeping with me on the side a little while longer, before finally leaving me entirely... and the other guy for a third man.

Yes gents. Branch swinging with a backflip in between. Circus acrobat level.

Fuck, this pissed me off!

For about a day.

Because thanks to you guys, I now know that AWALT.

I now know that I should NEVER expect ANY girl to:

  • stay faithful to me (because hypergamy)

  • feel bad about cheating (because hamster)

  • tell me the truth if it actually happens (because solipsism)

My anger quickly turned into light annoyment. Why would I be angry at my car for breaking down? Why would I be angry at my water pipes for bursting in winter? Why would I be angry at a child crying because he's hungry? Why would I be angry at an animal for behaving as it is programmed to?

I now know to not expect faithfulness, remorse, or truth from any woman. It might happen, but I don't expect it. With this knowledge, I prepare myself by not committing, building options, being ready to walk away at any moment. But even un-prepared, I just don't react anymore because "eh! that had to happen eventually!" and deal with it.

If my water pipes don't burst, it'll be great and I'll enjoy that. But you can be damn sure I'm going to prepare myself by checking them before winter. And if they do burst, I'll only be lightly annoyed because I did not expect it not to happen. I'll fix them and move on.

Thanks TRP.
