Started seeing a girl. At first I was really cold, only texted her to meet up, rarely responded to her, minimal interactions. I made her think I had other hobbies, other girls, other anything apart from her. It was true, I did spend time on myself and only gave her time when I was completely free or bored.

Low and behold, these were the best months of the relationship.

Then however, I got too comfortable. I gave her my attention. If she texted when I was at the gym, I'd respond. I was too available. I was doing everything the same, except the fact that I was giving her attention. She wanted my attention and I gave it to her.

I got too comfortable. My mind said "you've got her, you can just relax now". This was my mistake - you can really never relax. I say this because I still think I'm beta - I have to force myself to exhibit these "alpha" qualities. The key is to ingrain these qualities so often that they just happen, that you don't have to force yourself to not respond when you're with your mates that it just happens.

As a result, we broke up. She cheated on me, lied about it and I pretty much just cut contact. Even now that my attention is gone, she texts me that she still loves me and she didn't want this to happen.

Other "betas" in my boat - keep practising. Don't get too comfortable. I played it well to "win" her, but that's just part of the battle. Your brain will say "see, TRP isn't needed! Respond to her even though you're out with the boys!" It sucks that it works, but it does.
