Good evening folks, hope you'll enjoy this post since it's the last time I'm posting on Reddit. Been a pleasure chatting with you all over the past few years, but it's time for me to go.
Escapism
There's perhaps nothing more perverse, addictive, or dangerous as escapism.
Most of you engage in escapism every single day, and so do I. So do betas. So do women. So do SJWs. Everyone does, and it's crippling. But you can reduce it, and maybe even eliminate it.
First though, let's look at some different types of escapism.
Drinks and Drugs
Perhaps the most obvious example, anything which affects your mind and judgement is a form of escapism. Your escaping from the need to make decisions and take responsibility for your actions. The reason why drinking is so popular is because it gives us an excuse to have sex - men are less likely to care about being rejected, and women are less likely to care about social repercussions. Or we smoke weed because it relaxes us, instead of taking action to change the things that are stressing us.
I know most of you probably drink or smoke, but recognize that it is a form of escapism. In moderation it might not hurt you much, but be cautious and try to work on reducing your consumption unless it's for medical reasons.
Video Games
Another obvious example, video games allow you to live a life where you're in an interesting world, people care about what you do, and you're extremely capable. You can forget about your current shitty situation, and pretend you're a hero.
Of course, eventually you turn off the game and come back to reality. A reality where you've just fallen 5 hours behind because you played a game instead of doing something productive. Thus making your life even shittier, and making games even more appealing. Don't fall into this trap - I did and there are few things I regret more than the time spent on games.
Social Media
Chatting with friends on Facebook for a couple minutes every day is totally fine, but cycling between multiple sites and coming back to them every hour is yet another form of escapism. And not just the typical social media sites, but also Reddit. Even this subreddit. You're spending time reading about things other people have done, or worse, you're refreshing the page over and over hoping to spend time reading about something someone's done but they haven't posted yet.
And yes, this subreddit can also be like that. So many people get caught up in reading, reading, reading, but never doing. TRP is a great resource, but it's not something you need to check every day. Most of the stuff on here is repetitious, even this post is. Once you've read the sidebar and some of the top posts you're pretty much set. Follow the 80/20 rule, and read the best 20%. (Realistically, less than 20%.) Check back once a week or once a month and read a few of the top posts for that week or month. Otherwise you spent more time reading than you do doing, and you're just dreaming about how you'd handle situations rather than actually getting into those situations.
This also applies to all sorts of stuff like self improvement. Read the 10% of information that will give you 90% of what you need to know, and then act on it. Don't dream about acting on it as you spend days browsing for new shit to read.
SJWism
Being an SJW is yet another form of escapism, because rather than working to be successful and improve themselves they instead dream of a world where they're attractive or successful and yell at people to feel important. For example, body positivity isn't about mental health, it's about imagining a world where you can be attractive without watching what you eat.
Or what about the communists that are so prevalent in universities and on Reddit? Are they actually trying to implement communism? Fuck no, that would take work, and if you're willing to put in work you might as well just be successful under capitalism. Nope, it's about dreaming of how nice it would be if things were communist, without taking any responsibility for making it happen. Pure escapism.
Porn
I'll admit, I struggle to quit porn and still haven't. But without a doubt it's a strong form of escapism, as you get to imagine yourself fucking hot girls without putting in any of the effort to actually do so. And this kills your drive to actually get girls, because you've found a proxy that's good enough.
Others
There's plenty more, but hopefully the examples above were sufficient to give you a framework to figure out what aspects of your own life are escapism. It's always easier to put aside what needs to be done in favour of imagining something better, but it's only a way for us to waste time and fall further from our goals.
Come Back To Reality
Reject escapism, in all it's forms. It may take you some time, because we engage in escapism in so many areas of our lives. But you must first recognize the harm it causes, recognize where it's slipped into your life, and take action to reduce your dependency on it. You'll try to rationalize away the need to change, because your brain and body doesn't want to surrender its little vacations.
Life is hard if you want to be successful. Don't make it harder on yourself by running away from the things you need to do.
