Unless you have been cheated on, divorced, and had to co-parent in a healthy way after the shit-show that that process brings. You can't pass judgment on the guy. He's doing what he thinks is right to raise a healthy son by putting his sons feelings before his own perfectly valid feelings of anger towards his cunt of an ex wife.

He's not enduring a shitty situation just because he's too timid to say something. He's doing it after thinking logically what would be best for his son. He doesn't sound super beta, because when he was cheated on he didn't try to salvage the relationship at all. He wanted to GTFO of it and never look back, but unfortunately he has to coparent with his whore of an ex.

I would probably be more reactively abrasive towards the ex and her new BF. Telling them I'm only there for my son and they can leave me the hell alone, but that might lead to you getting uninvited in the future. I think that's fine later on when your son can logically decide who's being the cunt in the relationship, but when a kid is young they don't understand things like that, they just know that daddy wasn't there.

On second thought, I'd probably just show up with a new hot young piece of ass to the party and mingle with all the mom's friends while ignoring the ex and her new bf.

I would have gone to the birthday party as well. Not for the ex wife, but for the son. When you don't have kids it's easy to rationalize these things as beta behaviors.

I definitely wouldn't have talked to "other guy", GTFO as soon as the kid opens the presents, then make plans to do something one on one like camping, fishing, etc... This guy still has plenty of chances to raise his kid the right way and teach him manly values. From what I'm reading he's not going to take those chances though.

PS: The literal definition of a cuck is someone who's raising someone else's children. The joke is on "new guy" for moving in on a woman with someone else's kids.
