Okay so I can only offer help in terms of what I know of psychological issues and medication. If you have further questions ask, but I am just a random stranger on the Internet and not a psychiatrist or therapist.

You will see only after weeks whether the anti-depressant your doctor put you on works or not. Contrary to popular belief these medications can work, but as with many drugs there are non-responders, and, as in your situation, they won't solve your problem, but can lift you up enough so that you can distance yourself from your negative thoughts and solve it with the help of your therapist.

Don't stop exercising, if you don't want to play soccer anymore for fun, start lifting. If you live with your parents, use that as an opportunity to save money and time.

Eat well, inform yourself about micronutrients that can lead to or worsen bad mood, like Vitamin D3(which you lack for sure if north of spain and have to supplement), Omega-3 fatty acids(DHA and EPA, I prefer algae oil), B Vitamins(here I would actually eat more vegetables and fruit, or look up the synthetical form with the most bio avaliability) and amino acids like L-Tryptophan(for serotonin), L-Tyrosine(for dopamine), L-Theanine(can help with anxiety), but talk to your doctor before supplementing in combination with anti-depressants.

You should go to a good psychiatrist in case you don't, because general practicioners have less knowledge of psychiatric medication, especially when it comes to weaning those off or replacing it. If you can't develop a feeling of trust to a therapist or doctor, move on, unless this is part of your problem. Also watch out for the phase when the motivation to do stuff comes back, but the mood is still negative.

NEVER lose hope. The paradox of depression that during a depressive episode, especially your first one, you think that it will stay forever. But you will come out stronger than before, even if it's just never entering bad times unprepared.

Stay away from the places in the Internet that make you even more depressed. The red pill may be the truth, but you should come back when you can handle it. Take your time to get on the path of a new mission and only then think about women again.

I'll be honest, I'm mostly here to laugh at people... but what the fuck, I'll be serious for once. Yeah it comes from someone who thinks TRP is silly. But I've also been around the block a few times, and maybe you'll find it useful anyway.

First off, in anyone's dating history, there will always be outliers - in whatever category. Once you've been through enough women and relationships, you'll get some perspective on this. There will be the smartest one, the kindest one, the kinkiest one, the most talented one - and yes, the hottest one. Maybe this was your hottest one, maybe not. Truth be told, you never know - you're very young and there is plenty of living to do.

But even if she is, that's ok, too. Ultimately, the point isn't to always find someone hotter than your last girl. That's waaaay over focusing on a (rather short lived btw) quality that, while important, shouldn't be everything. The point is to find someone better and more compatible with you, which involves a balance of positive qualities. You rarely end up sticking around with the hottest one - unless you either win the lottery (of course it happens), or settle primarily for looks. Face it, this one wasn't a very good person, and not someone to tackle the long road with. You know this, even if you don't want to admit it. Whatever scenarios of the future you thought of with her probably involved her massively changing her whole personality. But that's not how it works.

Look, life is change, you have to learn how to appreciate the good times, learn the right lessons, and move on. That includes countries, times in life like college, and especially women. Don't create baggage for yourself that doesn't need to be there. Appreciate the past, but don't wallow in it. Live in the present and look to the future.

And learn to seek validation from within.

But look how silly all of that shit is. It's all external, almost like you're letting other people define what makes you happy and comfortable. Other people's view of her looks is more important than your own. And all so transitory and meaningless. The older I get the more I understand just how meaningless. And how fruitless the endless pursuit is. There will always be some hotter 18-20 year old, around the corner always. Even beautiful women's looks fade with life - and if you make it your ultimate focus you'll never be happy.

I find myself walking each day just to get some air and clarity. That's the highlight of my day.

Bro, that's basically paradise. Recharge, rebuild, and let the past go. You're young, educated, probably reasonably good looking. Soon you'll even be healthy. Go forth, find good women, and be prepared to let them go too. Maybe one of these days there will be one worth hanging onto who feels the same way. If not, it's still a great ride.

All I can say is, been there done that. I am living proof that you can survive it.

Mental illness is the longest cold you will have. It's like you are lifting with an invisible 10kgs. Others cannot and will not understand you if they have never suffered it themselves.

Many people on here will say don't be a pussy, push through it, but the fact is, sometimes you need a time-out to really fix yourself. You may need to remove yourself from the friends who are there as reminders of your Ex. Keep going with the professional help and don't quit.

Steven Fry made a documentary about his mental illness. Well worth the watch to get some perspective.

Fight the fight. At the end, you will know what it is like to become a real man because surviving mental illness is for tough mother fuckers only.

You live in a small town with very few job prospects. I think this is going to effect you greatly. In my opinion a man's self worth is directly tied to a quantifiable value. It doesn't have to be work, but for most men it will be. In my experience my times of greatest depression was when I was jobless or had shitty jobs and felt trapped. I would suggest you address this pronto. Move to the city and bust your ass to find a job. One with growth potential. This is a "chicken and the egg" problem as it's hard to get motivated when you're depressed. And it's hard to get rid of depression when you don't have prospects.

Find friends and family that can support you. You don't have to go it alone.

Quit placing value on this past relationship. It's over move on. You are degrading yourself over some bimbo that discarded you like last weeks trash. Is that really the kind of woman you want in your life? She's garbage. Move on.

Finally, you cannot tell me there are not hot Belgian bitches around or hot euro bitches. Get your shit together and get some plates lined up. Seek value in yourself and not through women.

Five years ago that man had everything that most men could ever dream. Where's he now? Dead from suicide. Because of the dumb decisions he made. His situation was wayyyy greater than yours and went to wayyyy worse in the period of a few days. You're acting like your life is such a huge tragedy and It is truly PATHETIC! I've read all your replies and I can tell you feel lost obviously. I've felt this on a smaller scale because of girls also, and they didn't even fuck me! My advice to you is to start reading, preferably from the TRP reading list. It'll give you ideas, inspiration, and for now a much needed escape. A good idea for employment is either apply for cruise ship child entertainment jobs or a summer camp counsellor. It's fun work that pays enough and will get you out there with new people. If I was European and a graduate I'd have applied myself. You obviously seem more ambitious than this, but I reckon this suggestion should do you well for the summer at least. You're too attached to identity, which is essentially fiction. You say your identity has been stripped from you. Well yes the positive one has been but now you have a negative identity which you are taking too seriously.

Dude lift weights like your life depends on it. This last winter I was sleeping 16 hours a day, most depressed I've been in my life. Still working out of it but the main thing which has helped me is lifting weights religiously.

Also if the antidepressants are hurting your energy levels, then stop them. It doesn't sound like they're helping. Although Wellbutrin does seem to improve energy levels.

You need to have a burning sense of indignance about having been put on your heels. You need a deep hunger to become a winner again and claim your birthright. Trust me when you come out of this you will feel golden. But again, for me it started with lifting weights religiously.
