Fred Rogers of Mister Rogers Neighborhood is actually a great example of a speaker .

His talking is very slow , very intentional ,and he doesn't use any filler words or phrases. It may take slightly longer for him to deliver the message but it also causes you to be more attentive to exactly what he is saying .

You sir are absolutely correct. Speaking slowly with pauses lends a heaviness to your voice that in turn lends it credibility and some seriousness.

However, when I started, I noticed that people would interrupt me during my pauses. That forced me to getting more clarity in my thought as well as developing some more gravitas.

I bought a course on udemy for about 10$ on developing gravitas. It talked about speaking slowly and minimalistically with a deep voice, owning your shit, staying fit, dressing like a gentleman, having an expansive body language, and surrounding yourself with similar people at all times. It's a good course and am still practicing a lot of the things taught there.

Fast speaking is a sign of nervousness or fear, things that obviously do not drive attraction. Plus you're likely to say something incorrect if you ramble

Great advice for men and women. For women since they usually talk way too fast and way too much to succeed in the sexual marketplace. Besides the reasons stated, it's great for men since then women are more likely to understand them, having more time to process.

I agree this helped me a lot as well.

Maybe not exactly related, but if you're not the best social conversationalist I found that it also helps not to worry too much about being particularly witty or charismatic if your speech doesn't "flow" as well when you're trying too hard. What I mean is that not every reply or statement has to be a punchline or a joke or a truthbomb or a popculture reference or a turn-of-phrase or an innuendo or anything witty or smart, sometimes just very basic yes/no or short-phrase answers are enough to drive a conversation and make you seem chill and not too high-strung while also making you appear to be able to convey your words without fumbling (at the cost of seeming a bit more simple). That's not to say you shouldn't strive to have a personality or charisma and work that into your speech but not at the cost of fumbling or pausing or lacking "flow" which I think are all worse than seeming simple, basic, or direct in what you have to say.

Holy shit I wish I could. I talk extremely fast, like someone on speed. If I try and slow down I stutter and I'll pick back up by talking twice as fast. It doesn't help that I mumble and have a slight lisp. Having a lisp makes me search for words and phrases that I wont butcher.

The only thing I've found that remotely helps is either looking away or closing my eyes and tapping my fingers while I'm talking. Which makes me look like a crackhead.

I've got a deep voice, at least I can say that much.

My issue is that my mouth tries to emulate my read speed of 600wpm. It doesn't work the other way around haha
