Delete it. Stop wasting your time talking about the MRM and just start doing. What you say does not matter near as much as what you do.

I couldn't agree more. Talking about Men's Rights on facebook, no matter your intent, is like trying to convince a tumblrina that buzzfeed is not a legitimate source for basing your arguments. Let your actions speak for yourself. And if any girls ask, give 'em them a quick TL;DR, change the subject, agree and amplify.

In regards to deleting facebook or not though, wouldnt facebook also help improve your SMV when posting pictures?

People respect my opinion a lot on some of the FB debate groups because I practice what I preach. Went out got myself a non-American Woman so I have shown it is possible. And I tell them exactly what they need to do to succeed in this regard.

Haven't had any form of social media for years. Don't miss it. Drain of resources. Avoid.
[–]MoreThanMan 17 points17 points17 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
I've pretty much alienated everyone else with talk of men's rights.

Thanks for the feedback.
I've got six years of posts to delete. It would take quite awhile. Deleting isn't as hard as you think. Deactivating might be a better option. I just think if I'm going to use FB as some kind of social proof then all those years talking about men's rights might hurt me. But then again, if I'm in shape and my other things are together then I agree that it shouldn't hurt me.

I actually successfully deleted my profile, not deactivated, deleted. It was about a year ago, best decision ever. It takes a week or something of not logging in to delete it. I had to visit a third party website to do so though.

Deactivate, then come back once ripped

I deleted my FB a long time ago. It's turned into a pathetic site full of fee-fees and cupcakes. Not worth my time.

This is a controversial topic. Since I am Black, have a good job and am in fairly good shape (and I try and tone down the RP discourse on my direct timeline) I don't get a lot of flack for voicing my opinion both in groups and on my other friend's timelines who have similar ideas regarding society and Women. (Friends and Family can see your activity on their newsfeed even if it's not posted to them or directly on your timeline unless they disable notifications from you - Thanks Facebook!!!)
On one hand I don't have enough privilege points to be viewed as "The Oppressor" (except to Black Women of course). On the other hand, I am not a fat slob who is unemployed, plus I'm married (non-American Woman) so any arguments that I'm bitter, lonely or need to get a job (the typical retorts from people in general, but Black females in particular to Black Men) are null and void against me.
So taking my personal experience into account I'd say come back ripped, with a good gig and maybe even a steady bitch who has similar beliefs. People are generally stupid so they will listen to others with more social proof, regardless if their arguments are founded in logic or not.

Actually, this depends on the privacy settings of the post you're commenting on. If the privacy settings would allow the other person to see the post, then it'll show up in the other person's news feed when you like or comment. Ie, if the privacy setting on the post is "friends of friends" or "public", it'll show up on all of your friends timelines when you like or comment, or if it's just "friends only" it'll show up on mutual friends timelines.
[–]TekkomanKingz1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah the problem is when you are participating on somebody's timeline some people have their privacy setting set WIDE THE FUCK OPEN to "Public"...And wonder why random people on the internet see their shit!
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I decided to deactivate the account. It's not deleted. I can decide to do that later on if I have more information to make such a decision.
In the meantime I've achieved basically the same thing.
[–]XXXmormon0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Just get alternate contact info for anybody you care about. If you need to temporarily activate Facebook to reach them, that will work. Just get emails and phone numbers. Get a fax number if you need to. It seems like there's no other reason for you to keep Facebook.
I rarely post shit on Facebook and I never say anything remotely controversial, so I use it to keep in touch with my friends in other states. If it were a hassle, I would take my own advice and just get contact info.
You can even keep a burner profile that you use to search for and contact people if you need to.

I deleted Facebook and gained 15 lbs of mass in 5 months. I think a gym might have been involved at some point also.
[–]lugubriusTRP2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
mass meaning fat + muscle or pure muscle mass?
[–]CharlieIndiaShitlord0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
He definitely means muscle.
[–]throwawayyourliberty1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Broscience and juice alert. Fat and glycogen is NOT muscle tissue. 0.25g per week muscle tissue gain is the maximum if you bulk. If you bulk (aka calorie surplus) you always gain fat and glycogen (water). If you want to spread weird myths, r/fitness is the place to be.

From the book 48 laws of power:
Law #3
"Conceal your intentions"
Keep people off-balance and in the dark by never revealing the purpose behind your actions. If they have no clue what you are up to, they cannot prepare a defense. Guide them far enough down the wrong path, envelop them in enough smoke, and by the time they realize your intentions, it will be too late.
Don't talk about the redpill with anyone. Most people will wrongly think you're a biiter person.
Be social, build a greater social network.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Reading 48 laws now. It's very good. As I'm reading it I'm seeing how the laws have been played out in US politics for years. Hilarious.

social media is a terrible habit if you don't use it as a tool to be productive in life e.x right way to use it: message your friends. See group posts about academics or follow major events that give coupons. e.x of bad way to use it. Be on social media for 5+ hours a day doing stupid shit. If you are the latter, then idk what you can do. "You can't kill the adiction, only the addict."
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I'm gonna add a vote to the against column. A lot of people care about the MRM who are too afraid to talk about it, or represent those positions themselves. I know what you mean about the problems with Facebook and ostracizing people. But the last few months I've gotten a lot of private messages from people who acknowledge that they aren't willing to carry these positions publicly, but were grateful that someone has the balls to. So just because you don't seem to get a lot of good feedback from it doesn't mean that people are listening and it doesn't mean that people don't appreciate it. I'm sure there're some people, who have these thoughts in isolation, Who youve actually helped quite a bit. It's important to remember that most debates aren't about the people debating but the silent people listening. And you never know how many they are.
If you're the kind of person that can speak about the men's rights movement freely and without fear of retaliation, then you might be a more important voice than you think you are. Just food for thought.

Get off social media. Free your mind, your ass will follow. FB is a pastime, like watching a soap opera. I had a few friends who posted good content, real things happening in their life. But 99% of what people post is gloating the best 1% of their life. It's nonsense, and a validation machine for the weak at best.

I deleted my facebook account more than a year ago. I sent PM to people I did not want to lose contact that I am deleting it and wrote them my email address, as it would be the only way to contact me. Sent PMs to 10-15 people. Only got one email from 2 or 3 of them. And they never wrote to me again. I guessed it would be like that. Just the confirmation I needed.

Deleted Facebook over four years ago and haven't looked back. You quickly realize who your real friends are, and who are just acquaintances that don't give much of a shit about you.

The additional time without facebook I spent learning about monetary history, exercising at the gym and concentrating on my thesis proposal (which was just accepted).
Facebook was such a waste of my life. I'm never going to get it again. As far as I'm concerned Reddit is my social media outlet now.

I have done fine without ever joining Facebook and I'm barely 30, so not some really old guy.
People will think it's weird that you aren't on Facebook, but usually accept when you say that you prefer to talk to people in person via e-mail or over the phone, instead of publishing your life online for all to see.
How often do most ex colleagues and random acquaintances actually e-mail or call me? Pretty much never, unless they want something.
If you want to be alpha, you set the rules upon which your life is lived by. The hivemind is for women and betas.

Facebook does not help my smv or social status at all so I deactivated it.
[–]incolours1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I deleted mine, It was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I remade a new one recently adding only close friends and family. Unfollowed them all so that I don't get a cluttered news feed. I keep 1 picture and 1 cover photo. I like 0 pages and have all my privacy settings at the highest possible level. I basically use it as a tool to keep in touch with friends and facebook now consumes 30 seconds of my day instead of the hour or so it was before. It's also nice having a clean slate instead of worrying about someone digging through years of beta pain and teenage angst.

The first rule of Fight Club is, you do not talk about Fight Club
Need to learn the IDGAF approach, go get lean, and post as usual on FaceBook, just don't waste too much time on it.
[–]The_Ralph0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
There's no simple reply here. But here's my .02 worth:
Social media seems made for women and children. It can be an incredible time suck. Just an updated version of the idiot box, if you really stop to think about it. I've wasted my fair amount of time on it, but then that's after a long day's work and listening to lectures on CD on my long commute to and from the job.
I use FB to let off some steam, post some silly pics and such. But I also post news, reports, and comment on current events. I don't care how this impacts my career. But I'm a bit older so I don't have to care as much, now.
And I'm in a LTR, so I'm not out to impress anyone. And my circle of male real-life friends is close and tight. FB is for fun/diversion. I'm not out to convert anyone on it or engage in asynchronous debates. Those are IMO 100% a waste of time unless you find a rare individual. But, real life always calls.
In the end it's your decision. I was not on FB until recently and did not miss it. I think if I deactivated/deleted my account today I would not miss it at all.
[–]ericatx0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]jx2340 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Depends how you use it. I keep Facebook because even though I don't post any photos or statuses, I have a lot of old friends or acquaintances/useful contacts who I message. But because anyone looking at my Facebook would think my SMV was low, I just tell new people I meet that I don't have it and get other contact details.
[–]Noze_Zelle0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Normally I'd say just ignore facebook as I find its messaging service useful for specific situations.
In your case I'll have to agree with the majority and say delete it. It seems as though you've already made the decision and are just hesitant on going through with it. Be sure to let those you care about that you're unplugging (heh).
One thing however is that if you delete and reactivate later on, it might keep your profile intact as it is now. A buddy of mine went off facebook for a while and came back on later (again, the messaging service) and his profile was as if he had never left. I'm not sure if there's an option to restore your profile or if it's done automatically, but it might be worth it to either purge your profile or stay off for good.
There is an option to delete it permanently. It takes a couple months for everything to disappear and only photos that other people post of me will be on there, but still difficult to find.
For now it's deactivated. In a few days or weeks or whenever I get around to it I'll go through the process of complete deletion.

I'm neutral towards Facebook. People here seem to hate it, with good reason. It feeds into a manic-type energy. I could write a whole essay on this topic, but I won't. Instead I will point you toward reading "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle. Ignoring all the goofy new age shit, the book is very good at describing the difference between manic energy a la Facebook, Twitter, TV vs. being present in the moment. I bet you know people who do things just to get likes on Facebook. They are experiencing something great and they need to pull out their camera for validation on Facebook in the form of "likes". Taking pictures of whatever food they are eating... I used to buy into this shit some 7 years ago when I first got a FB account. Since then I've completely stopped using FB. I have an account and I will only log in when people explicitly ask me to do so to confirm a photo tag or whatever. Like I said, I don't hate it. I just don't vibrate on that energy frequency anymore. Getting "Likes" means nothing to me.
My question to you is, why do you care so much about Facebook?
I don't care about Facebook per se.
What I was thinking was that women will always want to "investigate" a man to see what his background is. Having a Facebook page that I visit occasionally to change the pic or put up some pics of a party or vacation or whatever will give them the information they want and it's information that I control.
Right now my Facebook page is a mess. I've been ranting on and on for years and I've probably gotten most of the people I know to unfollow me as a result. That's cool. I don't really care about that. I don't need the validation. But with all that stuff on my page from years back, including fat photos, it's not very good information about me.
So really, the question was to delete it and make a limited page in six months or so with me sitting on a beach and to start over with zero friends and then build up from there.
I've already made the decision though. I just wanted some other view points and I've gotten that.

I use FB, but casually. I have friends from Way Back When, and I used it to promote my band (on a separate page) and I avoid political arguments or MRM stuff, and stick to being amusing and such. I am impossible to google (too many people with my name IRL) so I will sometimes use it so plates can see I am a normal guy who had a cool life (lots of friends, good sense of humor, plays in a band, travels to cool places), but that's it. It gives them a window into my world, but to do that you have to control what you put out there.

Rule number 1: don't talk about TRP
Rules number 2: don't talk about TRP
I've contemplated the exact same idea. Here are my thoughts.
Everyone is on the book. It is a great way to find people and keep in touch.
Event organization is helpful using the book. It also helps to keep you in the know regarding various social events.
If someone doesn't like your opinion or your fat pictures, fuck them. Unfollow them.
The laws of power tell us to keep our friend's close, but use our enemies. The number of friends you have demonstrate social proof.
But yeah, in the end of the day, it's just social media. No one gives a fuck. Weigh your options and decide to keep it or delete it. I'm sure the next best thing is right around the corner.
Why delete? Just leave a few pictures, and once a week add a few likes to bullshit about pay gap. Old friends will eventually reconnect. Key is to keep time overhead low.
If you like MRA make donations.

Don't talk to people about politics. Doing so usually suggests insecurity/seeking approval. Just take action.
I deactivated my FB account and uninstall whatsapp 1 year ago. My goal was to come back at least after 2 years being rip, having learned guitar and a successful career. You know what, i'm having exercise, learning guitar , already have an awesome and stable job and much more. You won't believe how much time you waste on these social networks and talking to people who really are not your friends you can do much more in that time and it only not about just time but you also get distracted by useless thing you talk about with them. I still remain in contact with my few friends via phone. Sometime meeting them on weekends. I say go ahead you will not regret it. First few months will be hard to control yourself but after that you don't even wanna go back.
[–]Jimmy_Big_Nuts0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Facebook is for women, gays, pointless narcissists, and people who work in media or events that require social media chatter. Straight men aren't the real audience for Facebook. Plus why give your personal information away for free to a shady company to make them a huge profit sending targeted ads at you. Ads wouldn't be such big business if they weren't effective. You are the product and they are using you. Cut facebook out, it is irrelevant, live in the real world.

Keep it. Switch from logical talk about men's rights to black knighting. Everyone loves this, even the ones that say they hate it, if you do it right.
Worst case - everyone blocks you, and saves you the effort of deleting your account.
