For most of my life, I've always felt like there was something different about me, some weird, fundamental thing that seemed to be holding me back, especially in my social life.
Shortly before moving out for college, I started learning about abuse and trauma, and by doing so, realized that I had a really fucking shit childhood. Parents beating and yelling at you all the time, being constantly sleep deprived due to the demands of school and us only having one car, the whole 9 yards. When I finally got to college, I realized the extent to which this was affecting me. Needless to say, I had to do a journey of self-discovery to start to heal from all of this.
Khavoqi, what the fuck are you talking about? What's the point in this post anyways?
Don't worry, I'm getting there.
I had a rough first semester in college; I was pretty depressed, was still trying to get over my childhood, and was trying to adjust to living on my own. Moving into my second one, though, I discovered the RedPill. I started working out, going out more, approaching women, working on my social skills, etc. Although it took me a good 9 months or so of work, by the following year (semester 4), I was feeling pretty damn good. I was getting good, consistent results with women, felt pretty confident in day to day life, and even started my own Ebay clothing business.
Then, seemingly without reason, I started to lose this momentum. I started feeling like I had lost my touch with women. My friendships started to feel less fulfilling, my workouts felt worse; but nah, I probably just lost my discipline. I just needed to toughen up.
This slow decline continued with me still trying to figure out what the hell was going on. It wasn't until I completely lost my sex drive and got ED that I realized something was seriously wrong.
Turned out, I had something called sleep apnea. It's a little complicated, but in essence, it's when your airway closes when you sleep, resulting in you having mini-wakeup's so that you don't suffocate to death. The problem with these mini-wakeup's are that they prevent you from getting a good night's sleep, meaning that sleep basically becomes useless. I would sleep for 11 hours and still be too exhausted to even get out of bed. Sleep apnea will literally make your life a living hell; you need to sleep, but yet sleep does nothing. Luckily, there's a device that can treat it and its symptoms; a CPAP. It basically blows air into your airway to prevent it from closing. Sounds simple, but yet it's $1000+. Go figure.
It wasn't until the middle of the semester, March, that I found out it was sleep apnea. However, since the US healthcare system is a joke, I didn't get my hands on a CPAP until around a week ago.
On my first night with it, I only slept for 4 hours. Yet I felt significantly better than I did sleeping 11 hours without it. Words can't even describe how big of a difference it's made. I finally have energy; I didn't realize that it wasn't normal to be tired all the time. I can confidently say this is the biggest productivity, mental health, and overall life enhancer out there for me. It literally feels like I'm on drugs with it. I just start randomly running on the street like an autist because I just have so much energy. I feel like my IQ has gone up by 50 points since starting this. It's a mind-boggling difference.
I know this isn't a typical RedPill post, but sleep apnea is something that needs more awareness. It will completely destroy your mental, physical, and sexual health. It will ruin your gains, limit your creativity, and simply make your life significantly worse. It will make you irrationally anxious about everything, make you unable to feel pleasure, and give you constant brain fog. It will make you socially inept, make you dumb and slow; I could go on all day.
If you have ANY of these symptoms:
- Unexplainable constant fatigue / constantly feeling hungover
- Low libido
- Waking up with a dry mouth and/or headache and/or sore throat
- Horrible memory
- Choking / snoring / gasping for breath when you sleep
GO GET TESTED FOR SLEEP APNEA! I'm not affiliated with them, but if you want an at home one instead of an in lab one, Lofta.com offers them for less than $100, using promo code nascar50. You can also get one done through insurance, depending on your coverage.
I know this might like some weird, convoluted ad, but CPAP has literally been life-changing for me. Sleep apnea gets nowhere near as much attention as it deserves, and for men in this space who have ambitions and goals to reach, you can't have something like sleep apnea holding you back. It'll completely hinder you in every single area of your life. Yes, discipline and hard work is good, but sometimes, you're just getting cucked by a medical condition that you have almost no control over. It's not always your fault.
TLDR: Sleep apnea is a horrible, horrible medical condition where sleep basically becomes useless. It fucks you up in every area of your life. Luckily, you can get it treated with a CPAP. If you have any of the symptoms listed above, go get tested for sleep apnea. If you have it and get it successfully treated, it'll completely change your life.
Cheers.
Edit: I should add that it I'm at ~13% BF right now. Yes, it can still happen to skinny, healthy people.
