"As a child happiness is your default state, you wake up and bounce around brimming with joy, if you come in crying your mother will ask "Who or what made you unhappy?"; now that you are older you have made depression your default state. You need reasons to be happy, you need to do things that make you happy, you take pills to make you happy, you try to find people that make you happy, you need to go to places that make you happy, you need things to be happy, you have to actively try to be happy. You refuse to be happy for the sake of happiness, why is this so?"
One of the biggest lies everybody tells themselves is "I need X to be happy"
What if I told you don't need a reason to be happy, how would you react? Many of you would find this concept tough to grasp, amongst all the talk of how much you lift, your n-count and political leanings you have forgotten what the aim of your life is. I'm not trying to promote fat acceptance or any-size-is-beautiful bullshit, this concept is different, what I'm trying to target is the resounding feelings of inadequacy that fills the hearts of many TRP-newbs. I'm not talking about success here; success and happiness are two very different things. Success in the gym, studies, business or women does NOT and will NOT 1:1 correlate with happiness. You, you right now, you are enough. You are enough for you to be happy. Being happy will not make you successful but what point is success if it doesn't make you happy? This isn't some hippie bullshit I'm talking about, this is the crux on which the $10 billion market for anti-depressants is founded.
Consumerist media will have hammered the concept of "you need X to be happy" into your psyche growing up (via NLP)
As a kid: "Without this toy you won't be happy" "without your princess you're incomplete" "Without a friendship group like this TV show character you're a loser" "Without this cereal your morning will be terrible"
As an adult: "I need this brand of clothing/watch/car to be happy" "I need a girlfriend to be happy" "I need to have 6 pack abs to be happy" "I need to eat colorful instagram-worthy food to be happy"
It is tiring to constantly search for things that make up happy. This is not how we are made but instead how we have made ourselves. Depression is tiring because oftentimes people will subconsciously be constantly putting themselves down and try to rationalise the source of even the iotas of happiness they experience. Try asking a child why they smile, why it is that they are happy; they will not be able to give you an answer as happiness is NOT rational so stop trying to rationalise it.
I'm not saying to not strive for these things but don't do it expecting happiness to be the end goal. You can be happy RIGHT NOW with nothing.
"“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.” - John Lennon
Everyone has different favourite TRP-authors; mine is Pook; if you are new/old to TRP and haven't yet read the Book of Pook I'd advise you to check it out.

Of course there are errors, mistakes, things that don't work right, like people getting really rich while others stay really poor. No one's perfect. No system is perfect. But it's impossible for the world to work the way you're saying it should.
"No masters, someone makes an invention, that invention helps all.".
If he's making that invention, he's going to want something in return. What can you give him? What if he makes something that needs energy? Electricity? Who produces that energy? Some people have to do that. But why would they do it? For fun? No, they need an incentive. Why would they produce energy for you?
That's why this world runs on money. It's something that has become universal, so that we can give value to the work we do, the things we get, the things we provide. Is it a perfect system? Fuck no. But it's something.
I know that technology started even before farming. Framing is technically considered technology. There are multiple levels of technology. Technology has been evolving for thousands of years. But if you think that it was easier back in the days when everyone had a farm, you're wrong. It was grueling work, every day. Every damn day. But people did it because they needed to survive. Now, things got easier. We have better living conditions, more rights. I think that it's wrong think that most people had better lives 500 years ago, or 1000 or 5000 years ago.
You keep saying that the way it is now is terrible, that there should be no masters and all of that. But you're not really elaborating on how the world should be then. You just keep criticizing everything, but where's your solution? Just saying: We should all be hunter/gatherers, or there shouldn't be someone above me, that's not a solution, it's what you want. How are you going to make that feasible?

No matter what you do in life you're going to have to do some kind of work, if only to feed yourself. That's true whether you're a hunter/gatherer or a part of today's society.
So whether you're a hunter/gatherer, or a part of today's society, your free will is the same in that sense: You can either work, and eat, or not work, and not eat, and die.
As for the amount of time you need to work, the minimum salary here where I live in Quebec is 10.75 an hour. Let's say you work 4 hours a day, every day, like what you say hunters/gatherers needed for food (which I'm not necessarily agreeing with you on that by the way). That's 43$ a day, 15 000$ a year. With that money, even after taxes I can pay rent, I can pay for food, I can live a comfortable life.
Am I going to stop there? No. Because I want more! I want more things, more opportunities, even better living conditions, etc.
But even with working low hours, at the most basic of jobs, I can have greater living conditions than hunters/gatherers back in the days, and I think that's great.
And yes, i have free will. I can decide to work more, I can decide to work less, I can decide what job I want to do, what I want to do in my free time (lots more to do in your free time than 500 years ago too, by the way!
Yes, I believe that I have free will. Yes, I believe that where I live, the way society is, I have it pretty damn good. It's not a perfect system, but it works. And I believe that i can truly be happy, right here, right now. And no, I don't think that I am a slave. Because I can work to earn what I want, or I can choose not to. And no one is controlling me.

It's unrealistic to think that you can do nothing in life and everything will be provided for you. You can't expect people to just give you food or money for no reason, that's what I meant. Even as a hunter you need to put in work to get food. It's a given that you need to work at least a little bit eventually. That's life.
The point that I was trying to make is that you can choose not to do any work, ever, but you will eventually die. Because that's how free will works. You choose to do something, and there are consequences for those choices.
And I agree with you, there are people that are above others, that call the shots, that have a lot more power than one person should hold. I feel like it's a little exagerated to say that there are systems that control us, but I get what you mean.
Thing is, that's how it's always been in our history, for some reason. You have kings and then you have peasants. I guess that an ideal world would have everyone hold equal power, with no one being above others. But then again, I believe that one of the reasons that there have always been people in power is because there are many people who want/need a leader, or someone above them. For example, isn't it one of the most basic principles of TRP that women want to be lead? (Didn't swallow the pill by the way so let me know if I'm wrong on that).
I also believe that there will always be greedy people who want more power, sadly. So it might be a little too optimistic to think that a world like the one you want is really possible. But I don't think that it's wrong though! We should always strive to better our lives and the lives of others.
It's what we've been doing for thousands of years, as we've been building villages, cities, countries, developing technology and evolving as humanity. So while it's fine to criticize the things that are wrong, or that aren't working in today's systems, and try to fix them, I think that it's also important to realize how far we've come, and all the things that we've achieved and are working well. Because we need to make sure that we won't just be tearing things apart and taking too many steps back. We need to move forward and keep making this world a better place!
I admit that I've been very positive, but it's because I felt that you were exaggerating that particular issue, I didn't think that it was as bad as you were making it out to be. But you are right, there are people who hold too much power, and society isn't always in our favor. I mean, look at how black people were treated just 50 years ago in America.
But things got better, because people worked for it, and we evolved. Things will keep evolving and who knows, maybe someday a world like the one you yearn for will be achievable. There are so many things that are wrong in this world, but together we can do our best to fix it, just like we've done our best to stop murder, rape, etc. by making it illegal, and enforcing that. And just like we've done our best to reward people for the work they do by building a economy and giving them money. And just like we've done our best to build a government that can lead us and provide things for us, by voting and financing it with a percentage of our earnings.
