Corporations flourish using many methods, two of the most common ones are maximising profit and minimising expenses.

It’s great that you’re striving for excellence and ever scaling the ladder towards your goals. But have you given any attention to what you are doing that can be limiting your progress or even the cause of your plateau?

Careers have been created to keep an eye out on the company’s expenses with the main goal to minimise them. This is why you sometimes see a new owner of a company (such as the son of the founder) who switches manufacturers to a cheaper company even though the cheaper alternative is worse in quality. Less money spent on running the business means more profit for the owner. Simple.

This same method can and should be applied to yourself as well. As we all know, humans are prone to forming habits. Some habits are good, like lifting weights and some are bad, like smoking or procrastinating. You’ll need to take a step back and ‘see the forest for the tree’s’ to find areas of your life where there is waste. Find the things you’re doing that you shouldn’t and work on stopping that. For example, if you watch anime, then cut that shit out right now, in fact, if you watch anything that’s hard core ‘entertainment’ then you’re doing yourself no favours. I’ve seen people use this with great effect; Go no internet for a week (as you should be texting girls, not using messenger. More privacy).

Aside from the above, it’s up to you to figure it out, at least start with little things. This way, when you prune away, after a time you will notice an improvement in your overall life, this will allow you to progress onto more challenging things. See it as lifting for your willpower, just like weights, you start small and work your way up.

Go ahead and shadow Warren Buffet or Bill Gates for a day. Watch their schedules and organisation. If it’s a working day, expect to see minimal waste of time. Men of the higher echelons of the corporate world tend to follow the same pattern, or habit and that is Efficiency. The same habits the elites practise are ones you can start to learn right now, starting with “minimising expenses”.

The ideal scenario is when you run yourself almost like a computer. Remove that which is not required to give space for that which is.
