1) Call a lawyer and follow his advice. DO WHAT THE LAWYER TELLS YOU TO DO AND FOLLOW HIS/HER ADVICE TO THE LETTER. Do what the lawyer tells you, nothing less and nothing more.

If you hire a lawyer, and the lawyer tells you to do something other than in the paragraphs below, do that. Do not follow any advice, including advice given here, that conflicts with what your lawyer tells you to do.

when you talk to that lawyer, tell him/her EVERYTHING, including all the "bad stuff" (because there is some "bad stuff" or else you wouldn't have a Title IX officer asking to talk to you). Omit NOTHING from what you tell the lawyer. If you have texts/documents/papers, get them, and give them to the lawyer.

2) Talk to the Title IX officer and ask why they want to talk to you. Get as much information as you can possibly get. DO not give him any information other than where and when you can meet in person. Ask for a written statement of what it is about. Ask for the name of the accuser. Ask for copies of any papers, documents or evidence they have against you.

3) Do not give him any information over the phone. Do not ask shit like "is this about ________, the girl I had sex with about a year ago?" If he tells you that it's about the girl, don't answer any questions on the phone until you get to the in person meeting.

4) At all times, reiterate that when you had sex it was always consensual. Don't talk about specifics -- reiterate that the sex was always voluntary.

5) Always, always, always cooperate and be as forthcoming as you can without prejudicing yourself. Always be polite, courteous and reasonable. Ask for things, don't demand. Be polite, but be firm and assertive. Ask until you either get an answer or until you're told you won't be getting an answer.

This doesn't add up as I delete my texts daily, why do you think it was stupid to delete from a year ago??

Don't say anything without a lawyer and talk with your phone company to get records to support anything you feel may aid you.

Administrative officials don't text you as a first line of communication. You're being played. This isn't real. Don't respond to the text. Act like you never got it. See if you get a legit phone call or written communication later.

If you get a phone call, ask what this is about, ask for the name and contact information of the person you're speaking with, ask what they want and why. Don't say anything, just ask questions. Do not answer questions. Do not agree to meet anywhere or do anything. If the person on the other end pushes for a meeting, simply state that this sounds serious and request that you be provided with a formal request, in writing, stating what this is all about and what you're being asked to do and when so your attorney can review it.

since when do officers text people? sounds fishy. Anyway, it won't help much now but if you have an android, SMSBackup is an app that will send all of your text messages to a gmail account. and it's free. it also backs up your recent call list and pic messages. I have literately thousands of messages from the past 4 years in my SMS folder and they take up very little space on your account.

Edit:spelling. Also, it backs up in almost real time. so if your phone gets stolen or seized, no one can delete the backups by simply deleting the messages from the phone. just wanted to add that part.

IF they are meeting with you, they are probably trolling for more info so that they can charge you. Treat them, always, politely, but remember: this is a person who gets rewarded for proving that there is sexual harassment on campus; this person is not interested in the truth.

The other advice to get a lawyer is wise - they will drop you and look for another, softer target.

How the fuck do you know it's real? It could be someone fucking with you. Verify the identity of the person/ number, and if it's legit, get a fucking lawyer.

Then you don't even TALK to the fucker. You direct him, and every other communication through your lawyer. The only thing you should reply to any officer of the court with EVER is "Please direct all further communications to [Name and number of lawyer]."

If a police officer asks to meet you, it means that they don't have enough to arrest you. They want you to give them enough to arrest you. Do not invite them into your home. Do not invite them onto your property. If they come to your home and "want to talk" you can refuse and ask them to leave.

Don't say shit to cops of any type without a lawyer. They will try to ask you stupid shit to get you talking... "Do you NEED a lawyer?" type crap. Just STFU and be stoic. If they have enough to arrest you, they will. Then they will ask questions.
