I will have been volunteering in the local soup kitchen for a year next month. The kitchen is organized by the parish, funded by individuals and legal entities and run by volunteers. People don't eat the food inside because we don't have capacity for that, so they take the portions home. Since parish priest is a very industrious and busy man, the volunteers report to "the boss", who was one of the originators of the soup kitchen idea in our parish. The boss happens to be a female lawyer.

All usual modern female bullshit aside, I thought we could count on her objectivity and professionalism since she went to the hardest law school in the country, but other volunteers somehow begged to differ. I couldn't care less for petty trifles so I zoned out when other volunteers I usually work with started gossiping her.

In the beginning of my volunteering there, she invited me to come with other volunteers to some activities that were basically hanging out and "bonding" outside of the city. I excused myself because I had an exam coming in the following week. She was a bit disappointed and was stern about me coming to such events in the future because the soup kitchen staff is "one big family". Ok, if I have time, I will come, if not, I'd gladly get rid of an exam than chit-chat and sing songs. There were no more events like that afterwards.

One day I forgot to come to do my kitchen work because I had a busy week and had confused days in the week. Consequently, I didn't report that I will be missing that day. The next day I received a frantic phone call from her in which I found out that I'm "always late", "there's always a problem" with me, I "never want to come to our [nonexistent] activities", do I "genuinely want to work there" etc. etc. I apologized profusely and didn't think much about all the other exaggerations, because she could have a bad day, there was a real problem with being understaffed that day or whatever.

Then the summer came and, for a period of time, all the other soup kitchens in the city closed. Some for vacations, other because of construction works. One older guy, a customer of the kitchen, but a reliable man, who helps us with work, bringing the food in or keeping the order (lets call him Helper), shook his head and told me: "I told her last year that we need to close too, because hundreds of new people then come to us, many of whom are criminals and troublemakers and she never listens." So, one day, a group of drunk mandrils came and started to cut in the line. I stopped them there and then and told them politely that they need to go to the back of the line or ask somebody to let them before them. They started lying about being there first and when I didn't buy it, they started to threaten me with violence and one of them, tattoed from head to toe, took out a knife from his pocket, just because they would have to wait 15 more minutes. I looked unfazed (but was shitting some of the biggest bricks in my life) so they left, chimping out. I didn't want to get a blade in my kidney on the way home, so I called the police. Somebody else called the parish priest and he came too.

A beautiful example of male and female reasoning came about. Firstly, the males: the cop wanted to know who, what, where, when and how; the Helper assisted me in making a statement; the priest kept quiet because nobody asked him anything and he couldn't provide any details regarding the incident because he wasn't there, but said that we will close the kitchen if something like this happens again; the other guy volunteering said to me that I should have called him when the shit hit the fan. Now, the females: the older volunteer - something in line with: "OMG OMG OMG" ad nauseam; the younger one, who likes to boss around: "WE were in such danger! I didn't know something like that could happen to US!" No, bitch, I was in danger because I'm the "security guard", like every other male volunteer, and you are INSIDE the building because you are female. I really doubt they would take the time to slice all of us up and would be content with stabbing only me and going away before the police shows up.

Luckily, this pack never came back to our kitchen and I haven't seen them anywhere since, so I got myself a pepper spray I now carry everywhere and forgot about it. Until I heard what the boss had to say about the incident. The priest informed her about it and I think that he is very capable of repeating the story that could be summed up in two sentences. However, I have found out two days ago that I "threw away those guys' food and that's why they were provoked". That's her version of story which she tells anyone who asks about it. I understand that there can be misunderstandings, but to completely make over the story? While being a lawyer? And also, if your soup kitchen volunteer throws away people's food (which would mean I had to attack them on their way back, since I'm rarely inside the kitchen) and starts knife fights including 6-8 people, wouldn't you MAYBE want to speak with him and make him resign (or even include the police) if those allegations were true? No. She's content with having a made up story and unchecked facts to spew around, being the actual boss and person responsible for the whole place. If that event escalated and the police contacted her, what would have happened to me? It wouldn't be self defense, it would be assault and disturbing the peace on my part and probably nobody would testify for me because there was nobody around at the moment, except for the kitchen's customers, who would rather say they didn't see anything than become new targets for the attackers.

I really didn't know how she can behave like that, but then I found out her husband prefers to get out and get himself drunk when her hamster starts working out the wheel, so all her bullshit is always left unchecked. Good God. And she's a respectable attorney and a public servant, responsible for tens of thousands dollars worth of food per year, 20-30 volunteers, 100+ poor people and God knows how many donators. Women like this are the number one reason society in the past made female social responsibility end behind the front door of the house.
