Some one pointed out recently that there have been many changes over the months and years to mod policies, but these changes have not been helpfully gathered up in one place for your reading convenience, which makes them tough to abide by. I'd like to thank that someone, because we needed to get around to updating things.

So here it is, everything you need to know. Most of you don't even need to be told these things, because you have basic common sense and know how to act like an adult.

For the rest of you, here's why you're about to get banned.

This list constitutes your only notice of what the rules are. You are responsible for having read this list in full (or having the social skills to discern what proper behaviour is without even needing read it) as a prerequisite for commenting or posting. People who aren't socially retarded know how to watch others and figure out what is expected of them.

This list is linked from the top of the sidebar, and ignorance of it is therefore no excuse for anything.

The bullet points are the actual rules, italics are explanations.

Actions:

There are several major actions mods are capable of: Awarding EC status, awarding ♂ points, removing a comment, removing a post, temporarily banning a user, and permanently banning a user.

Grounds for awarding EC (Endorsed Contributor) status:

In general, don't ask. This status is intended to indicate consistent high-quality contributors who can be relied upon to say things worth hearing. The flair is intended to let newer users know that this user is a good source of information, and not some other new user whose advice might not necessarily be good.

If you are doing anything to try to get EC status, you are doing it for the wrong reasons. ECs are people who speak because they have something to say, not because they want a trophy for saying it.

Grounds for awarding ♂ points:

These are intended to keep track of particularly good or useful insights that users have contributed.

Ideally, any EC can do this, not just the mods. But reddit API updates have broken TRPbot, so this is not an automated process. If you are an EC and you wish to award one, please message the mods with a link, and we'll get that done.

Points typically become irrelevant if someone becomes an EC, although they might still display, because we have a lot of housekeeping to do.

Grounds for removing a comment or post:

One or more of:

  • Lowers Signal to Noise Ratio.

This includes, but is not limited to, \"me, too\" comments, comments that reiterate redpill consensus with no new useful ideas (even if they are heavily upvoted), memes or picture macros by themselves, textwalls (no paragraph breaks or otherwise difficult to read), or non sequiturs. It does NOT necessarily include conversations which drift to another topic, so long as that topic is of interest to all users still participating, e.g. keto diet, child-rearing, career advice, and so on.

  • Bad, False, or Low Quality Objective Data

Includes \"red pill examples\" or \"field reports\" from fiction as well daytime talk shows, reality tv, tabloids, or other questionable sources. \"Red pill theory\" posts may contain material from fiction if it is then developed beyond that example into a useful discussion of a principle, but fictional references by themselves will be removed when spotted. Fiction is not evidence. Anyone can write anything.

  • Directly damages or endangers the subreddit.

Includes, but not limited to, breaking any rule of reddit, condoning egregious acts of violence or other illegality, posting any illegal content, linking to sketchy websites run by lunatics (stormfront, scientology, etc), or linking to other subreddits or discussion boards in ways likely to cause a flamewar or votewar.

  • Argues in bad faith (Argues without the intent of examining opposing theories to arrive at truth.)

Includes, but not limited to, postmodern discourse, ad hominem, pissing contests, alleging moral imperatives which cannot be deduced from empirical observation, deliberately (not accidentally) introducing logical fallacies, lying about the existence or nature of evidence for a hypothesis.

It's okay if someone can figure from context that you have a vagina. But don't yell and wave it about... unless you brought enough for everyone. (This rule will be interpreted VERY leniently for RPW regulars.)

  • Disingenuous Speech

Concern trolling (attempts to dilute discourse under the guise of friendly concern for public image), white-knighting (taking the side of a woman in a dispute or debate on account of her sex rather than the individual circumstances), bro-knighting (attempting to shame men out of self-interested behaviour by falsely implying they have non-reciprocal moral obligations to male strangers), using any technique from the The Catalogue of Anti-Male Shaming Tactics for any other purpose than to help the audience overcome obstacles to happiness and success. (You may use shame to attempt to make a man go to the gym and lift. You may not use it to attempt to make him marry a single mother.)

  • General Lack of Self-Control

Childish squabbles or pissing contests, arguments about who is \"more alpha\", melodramatic displays of self-pity, tantrums

  • Endangers Subreddit Users

Giving dangerous advice which may harm new users who mistake it for part of the TRP playbook, and be confused into following it. Attempting to collect personal contact information of users (consensually or otherwise) without explicit mod approval BEFOREHAND. Shilling for or otherwise endorsing any commercial product without explicit mod approval BEFOREHAND.

Includes character assassination, insults, or accusations of personal wrongdoing. DOES NOT include disagreeing with statements, even vehemently. DOES include anything which, said in person, might merit an ass-whuppin'.

  • Attempts to hamstring the success of other readers. (The \"Crab Bucket\" Rule.)

Includes calling bullshit (without evidence) on Field Reports because you want them to be false, nitpicking success stories in order to enhance your own image, attempting to gain credibility by AMOGing other readers, \"teaching\" threads which are boasting rather than useful advice, other attempts to throw other men under a bus, especially those less far along on the road away from betahood.

Grounds for temporarily banning a user:

  • Any of the above, in a situation where the removed post/comment or multiple posts/comments were clearly not a simple mistake, but a pattern of misunderstanding or ignorance of the rules by an otherwise well-intentioned user who is capable of being a useful contributing member of the discussion.

Temp-bans are not generally intended as a punishment, but rather as \"silent time\" to give the user time to absorb the culture or learn the rules, so the mistake will not be repeated.

Grounds for permanently banning a user:

  • Any of the above where infractions of rules were motivated by hostility to the subreddit or its readership, or by an agenda which runs counter to the best interests of readers. (The \"Troll\" rule.)

  • Any of the above in a pattern which shows evidence of permanent inability to contribute usefully or participate without disrupting. (The \"Brain Damage\" rule.)

If you actually have brain damage or a mental illness which prevents you from carrying on civilized discourse, you have our best wishes for your speedy recovery, but we are not specialists in the treatment of traumatic brain injury. There are places you can go for help. This is not one of them. We cannot help you, and we are neither willing nor able to tolerate your behaviour.
