They say to master a skill it takes 10000 hours of practice. Obviously you don't need to master every thing you do but you should strive to improve every positive skill set at your disposal. Likewise, when starting out as a novice at something, don't just read up on how to accomplish a goal, apply it and expect it to work amazingly on the first try. Things take practice.

For example; if you are, like I used to be, a social retard, don't read How to Win Friends and Influence People, go to your first party and expect to suddenly be cool and popular. These things take time, confidence levels can't suddenly explode, you've gotta take it nice and laid back. Go with the flow.

Same thing with lifting. Nobody expects a fatty to attend a gym for a week and suddenly look like Hercules and nobody expects the skinnyfat geek to look like The Rock, you've gotta commit, put in the work, develop routines and habits. Make lifting heavy shit a daily box you need to check off before the day is over.

Whenever you get frustrated that you aren't getting immediate results, focus on how you're going to perform next week. When that time comes, you'll notice that you've gotten slightly better at it. Once you've been doing it long enough, focus on the next month, next six months, year, etc.

The point is, since we were children, we've been fed instant gratification, and that has been poisonous to self improvement. Strip yourself of pleasures. Put down your fucking Xbox controller and pick up a dumbbell. Stop watching TV and start learning an instrument. Quit beating off and just start talking to people, build your confidence. Flirt with a girl. She flirts back? Ask her out. She said no? Fuck it, there are plenty more of them, wash, rinse, repeat until it works. Become comfortable with failure, because when you finally succeed, it'll be so much more fulfilling.
