I recall, quite a number of years ago (perhaps 10 years ago), there was a bill (perhaps a reauthorization of VAWA) which would have required that the payer of alimony also be required to pick-up the receiver's lawyer fees. That didn't make it into the final bill, however. It's just sort of understood that the payer ought to be a bottomless source of cash.

If the fellow remarries, the 2nd wife is expected to make do with the reduced family income. The 2nd wife can resign herself to deal with that hardship (perhaps even get a job to help out?), but the 1st wife is assumed to never be capable of working. The assumption never fully made sense to me whereby 1st wives cannot work, but 2nd wives absolutely can.

Anyway, to look at the whole mess with clear eyes and say "let's get married, darling" and not say "fuck no to this destructive, money-eating divorce machine" seems less fun than gambling it all away playing craps and keno at Vegas instead. In the latter case, you at least have cocktails, a chance of winning and a cheap buffet.

I worked with a man who had been paying $500/month alimony for over 16 years. He and his wife were married in Alabama for only 5 years and got divorced there. I asked why he didn’t go to court and have the alimony stopped. He said the court system is so screwed up, that the judge might look at his income (100K+) and say since he is making so much more than his ex, he can afford to pay even more alimony. If the ex went to court to try and get more money, the judge might say 16 years is more than enough, so you get nothing from here on out. Both are happy with the relationship. He called it his $6,000 insurance policy.

This shows you the quality of women out there. She was collecting alimony for over 3 times the years they were married, and felt nothing bad about it. No doubt, she felt she was entitled to it. BTW this was in 2015. Who knows how long it has gone.

And yet the most extreme women will make the reverse claim - things only happen because they affect men / only impact women negatively

Main example they use this in is the strict abortion laws and hormonal birth control. They claim that if men could get pregnant that abortion would be free, on demand and up to the point of birth. You know - one of those insane pro choice arguments that is more about being pro woman (and often anti men) than the dealing with the actual issue and yet some how gets amplified louder than more level headed arguments

But the latest one I saw was the attempts to codify gay marriage by the senate. Their hatred of men runs so deep and their belief in the patriarchy and sexisms is so ingrained that they truly believe gay men are favoured by the majority of society over women (especially heterosexual women)

That truly shows when someone is divorced from reality

Well Mr. Anti-abortion. Below is a true story that you will not like and you will not answer.

I dated a girl for about 1 ½ years. Every so often, she would withdraw from me. She would get sad and quite. She did not want to talk and wanted to be alone. During one of these times, I asked what was wrong? Did I do something? She said she was just remembering something bad. I asked what it was?

One day on her way home from school, she was beaten and raped. Her attacker was a criminal out on parole. She was 13 at the time and became pregnant due to the rape. BTW She was white, her rapist was black. The rapist was caught; she had an abortion.

Would you want your daughter to carry a rapist baby, while she was 13? How would you handle this?

BTW. This is the fifth time I have posted this with a bible thumper, and the other 4 never responded.

So I ask again, if the girl was your 13 year old daughter, pregnant by a black rapist, who beat her, would you insist the girl give birth? Would to adopt the child?

I bet you will chicken out just like the other 4.

I was commenting on how certain pro choice arguments are amplified loudly now but are really bad. Not that there were no valid ones. I thought that was clear from the context? As in Crystal fucking clear. “If a man could get pregnant abortion would be easy and free” and by implication that it isn’t is due to the evils of “the patriarchy” = terrible argument that is loudly screamed and discredits the position. Your example = good argument and the reason why such an example is an exemption in the law in all but the most extreme states

Bible thumper? That is a new one given that I am a staunch atheist and actually have quite a lot of animosity towards organised Christianity for reasons I will not go into

If I took your advice, should the age be removed as well, or that she was walking home from school, of that years later she was still hurting from it?

You remind me of when that black man Darrell Brooks Jr, who drove into a Christmas pageant, with his car and killed 6 people. CNN reported that a car drove into a Christmas pageant, as if the car drove itself, even though they knew the name and race of the person and photo. I think more details are better than less. CNN had no issues with all sorts of details on kyle rittenhouse, some true and some false.

I apologize for the bible thumper insult. You are not one,. Good for you.

But it is all true about giving this to 4 bible thumpers, anti abortion types, and None of the chicken shits replied. The story is all real.

You would force a 13 year old girl, beaten and raped, to carry the fetus full term. What a &*%# you are. Would you prescribe the same action if it happened to your sister or mother after seeing your beaten sister or mother in the hospital?

Then you propose adoption, something you yourself would not do. There are over 300,000 kids waiting to be adopted, so tell your friends to step up to the plate.

You remind me of an Abortion Volunteer who guards Abortion centers. There was this one church whose members always protested this one clinic. The man worked full time at a state adoption center. One day he decided to visit the church. He brought adoption papers and challenged the members, that if they were so pro-life to prove it by adopting some of the hundreds of thousands of kids needing a family. Guess what? Just like you, no one stepped forward.
