I have a couple of friends like this. When you have low self esteem, abusers seem to smell it a mile off. I know a girl who just dates a series of absolute monsters because they always manage to convince her that because they are a tiny step up (but this one doesn't even beat me!) they are the best guy ever and she should be grateful that they are paying her any attention at all.
