Evangelicalism is a movement (not a denomination) within the Christian Church that was started and popularized by Billy Graham in the post-world war 2 era. It began innocently enough by focusing on the basic elements of Christianity and trying to just get people "in the door" of the church. It simplified the Faith in order to make it relevant. Every church now has a band, thanks to evangelicalism, to "appeal to the youth". The problem with this approach is that the version of Christ presented lacks depth, nuance and more difficult lessons yearned for by believers everywhere. It makes Christianity boring and gives the impression of "oh, that's all?". As a result, many Christians don't know much of anything about their own faith and the youth they were trying to appeal to fall away very easily. There is a movement, Calvinism, that's making a comeback thanks to this fallout, which emphasizes the difficult nature of faith.
