It's simple math, and relative SMV. All things being equal, a man in his 40s with his shit together to any degree is seen as a catch or at least "worthy" for women (generally speaking) from late 20s to mid 40s. So, that's roughly 18 years of demographics. Perhaps less so on the low-end of that curve, but it's definitely there. A man in his 30s probably won't go much lower than 23, depending on their tastes, and also probably won't go much above low 30s themselves. Call it a generous 35, and we're still only looking at 12 years of demographics.
Plus, one thing guys in their 30s have to contend with is women their own age hitting the wall and/or trying to beat the biological clock. That's not an issue anymore for guys in the 40s.
Of course, I'm talking broad generalities here, and assuming average values for various qualities.

I concur. I am mid-50s, a doctor, physically very fit. Adult children and no alimony. My life has never ever been this good. When you are in your 20's and 30's, there are tons of fit guys you are competing with. In you 40's you should be pretty settled into your career, but many of these guys start giving up physically and continue to endure their unhappy marriage out of duty and the kids. If you take care of yourself and make good decisions, the 50's can be great. Attrition will simply whittle away the competition and you can live a life full of abundance. Pro Tip: get a vasectomy.

Currently a little of both with online being predominant.
