When do you start to feel okay initiating text conversations? Do you NEVER start during courtship, or maybe once in a while?

I decided to track how often this guy I've been seeing initiates conversations, we talked for a few weeks before meeting but I deleted the conversation (to stop me from messaging first lol), so I only have data from our first date which was 31st October.

In that time, has double texted once, initiated/sent the first text 14 times, not spoken to me at all for 4 days (not consecutively), and replied (but sent the first message of the day) twice. I have initiated three times, and sent the first message but as a reply once. I've not double texted once. So, obviously, he is into me, but I am wondering - when do I ease up? I will also add that I told him early on that I much prefer calls to texting so most of these days were actually phone calls, in addition to texting - tbh a break is good as I think it was maybe a little too much contact (for the past month we have also been in lockdown and I don't want to meet until it's safe to go to restaurants again). We haven't spoken for the past two days, my pickmeisha past self thinks I should reach out but my post-FDS self thinks that he's not going to risk losing an opportunity with me.
