I'm having my first pre-date screen via video call tonight. How do you recommend opening and, more critically, closing out the call? The handbook post helped a lot with everything in between, but I'm not sure about those two things.

Is it okay to start out casually ("how was your day," etc.) before weaving in the questions, or should I be more upfront about the call's purpose?

And if it goes well, of course he'll ask me out on a legit date if he's worth his salt (actually, he kind of did already, but I asked for this call first). BUT what if it goes badly and/or I don't like him? How does one wrap up the call then?

Thank you for any pointers!
