I'm vegan so it bothers me quite a bit. I've been reading up on the ethics of hunting and learning that it can be good for the environment and that it may actually be more ethical than buying meat from factory farms but it still doesn't sit well with me.
I feel like a close minded person, especially since he doesn't judge me for being vegan. He is a gentle, giving, and empathetic person so I felt sad and confused when he told me that he hunts with his dad.
I wish I had known about his hobby way back when I first met him. This is the problem of falling for someone too quickly I guess.

I’m vegan as well. The last two HVM I’ve dated hunted.
I can’t stand dating someone who eats meat and says they love animals. Can’t fucking stand it. If you’re going to eat meat you better know where it comes from and understand/experience the process.
My bf went vegetarian for a while when we started dating. He eats vegan when I’m around and he’s learned to cook vegan.
Of course I’ve met LVM who hunt. But I don’t think it’s inherently LV.
Hunting permits are given in a specific way. I also don’t date men who put a salt lick out, wait in a blind, drink whiskey and get lucky shooting a deer. The men in my life who hunt, hunt with bows, are skilled enough not to injure animals and seriously work for what they do. My bf hiked out 100 lbs of meat 10 miles last year, crossed multiple rivers to get it out. That’s the only way I can respect meat eaters.
I’ll prob get downvoted by non-vegans and vegans for my comment. But that’s my standard. If you eat meat, you sure as shit have to kill it yourself and understand our ecosystems.

Thank you for this informative comment! And I'm sorry I phrased my post in such an insensitive misinformed way.
Whenever I think of hunting, my mind immediately jumps to the whiskey guys, but your comment helps me see the difference between people like that and the people who have real respect for the animals they hunt and eat.

Is he hunting because he can't afford to buy meat? (because god forbid, a man should ever have to eat a vegetable.)

Hahaha no, but he does eat the animals that he kills.
