In reading, I've come across something that looks like a contradiction.
Robert Glover (No More Mr. Nice Guy) warns us against covert contracts. I'll be the first to admit I've made plenty of covert contracts; the wife was invariably astonished when she discovered she was part of a covert contract I'd set up. I've largely knocked these on the head.
Yet Rollo Tomassi (The Rational Male) counsels us that much female communication is covert. You don't explicitly say "I could dump you tomorrow and have someone else sucking my cock by the weekend", you set up the situation so she tells herself this with subtle dread.
There's obviously a subtlety here that I'm not getting. Maybe a rule of thumb over what sort of communication should be subtle and covert versus what should be out in the open. How does one square this circle?
