I'm new to MRP but I used to be a more confident alpha type before I let myself get all beta'd up in my marriage. I've only been reasserting myself for a few weeks but I've generally been pleased with the results so far. My wife is either responding positively to my changes or is just pretending while she prepares to divorce me. I don't really give a fuck either way.

But here's a thing that happens frequently that I'm not sure how to deal with. Yesterday she sent me a list of things that she wanted to buy for the house, about $90 total. I've recently started budgeting through YNAB and she's respectful of that, but she doesn't really want to actually, you know, be involved in the budget process.

I told her no, we had already spent our budget allotment for household goods this month. She agreed but then texted me and said "I think I'm going to get this one $10 thing anyway. Will that make you angry?"

I have a tendency to be a hothead and she's often remarked that she has no idea what little thing will set me off. Since going MRP I've tried very hard not to get angry and hold frame at all costs.

This text message didn't make me angry. However, I'm not sure how to respond to this minor disobedience. Possiblities include:

  • "I'm not angry, but I said no, and no means no"
  • Close the joint account and start giving her an allowance
  • "Angry? LOL No. You're cute." (this is what I actually did)

My wife is big on me not telling her what to do, but she's always asking me what I think she should do. Whatever. I'm just not sure if I should nuke this kind of minor disobedience completely or not worry about it.
