Never had an issue not drinking at parties, you're more likely to get hassled for "I'm just having a couple of drinks" or "I've had enough to drink" than "I'm not drinking".

Go to the parties anyway, just don't drink - no one will notice and if they do they won't care enough to go on about it, they're there to have fun too.

Just don't f-close on a college age girl that has been drinking, better to take the small chance of seeing her another day by grabbing her number than risking legal hassles.

Alcohol is a vice. Like any vice, it's fun, but bad for you, and should be indulged in moderation.

For most people. You are coy about your background, but if you have a family history of alcoholism or just "mean drunk" behavior, there's no shame in looking to your health.

"I'm driving."

"I'm big on fitness."

"I'm a mean drunk."

I've never had problems with sober people showing up to hang out at parties. Similar to gym vibes; no one else should care how much you are lifting, and there's usually a bit of underlying respect that you made the effort to show up. I'd say be careful about joining drinking games because if you play with a non alcoholic beverages it might rub other players the wrong way if they are competitive.

The only thing I find annoying is when two teams of sober people show up unannounced, beg to join a beer pong tournament after we had already finished the round robin, proceed to knock me and my partner out in the semifinals after a flawless run, and both make it to the finals haha (still a little salty) Even after all of that I'd still hang with those guys because they were pretty chill.

33 years old, don't drink. Sometimes people in business will pressure you, but IMHO if somebody needs to see you poisoning your body to feel comfortable with you then they can go fuck themselves.

Go but don't drink. Your game will be sharper anyway. Just fill a red solo cup with soda so you have something to drink and only bring it up that you aren't drinking if someone asks to take shots or tries to hand you a drink. But the social aspect of parties is absolutely invaluable. As drunk talk is sober thoughts, you will see what girls (and guys) are really thinking.

If anyone makes a thing of it, simply say you have to do what's right for you. Use the responses that /u/fnordsnord provided.

Alternatively you can just have a soda water with a lime wedge. Nobody will know the difference.

I used to drink in high school, now I'm in university and I don't drink - and drinking is more prevalent in university.

Nobody gives me crap. If you need an excuse, say you're driving - personally, I just say, "I don't drink, I'm pretty big on fitness."

You won't be unable to attend parties/seem cool if you're not drinking, as long as you're not one of those losers who think they have the moral high ground for staying sober

Alcohol disrupts social inhibitions. If you can be aloof enough not to get hung up on them, then you won't notice a difference, except you'll have better coordination.

Heard about the Spartans? They hardly ever drunk alcohol in large amounts except for that one time their parents drowned them in wine when they were an infant to make sure they were tough. The reasoning behind this? Because someone has to stay sharp of mind while the other Greeks are sleeping.

Also it's fucking Beta to still cling to a lifestyle lived by teenagers and college students unless you have some real beneficial reason to do so. Most people I know that are "getting shit wasted" at parties nowadays are the dudes I couldn't get out for a night in town.

Alcohol and Alphaness has nothing to do with eachother. Not even gonna explain why.

Not drinking alcohol is stupid. I get wanting little to do with it because of a bad family history, but you are your own person.

Now, granted, making an event out of drinking yourself under the table is worse, but alcohol on it's own isn't really that big a deal. If it's offered, drink a beer. A beer. Just one. Know of a few good cocktails you can sit through that aren't girly shit. Gin and tonic is pretty straight forward. If you like ginger beer, you'll like a Moscow Mule.

And yeah, for the next few years you're dealing with the stupid alcohol culture that surrounds American colleges. Get used to it, don't try to apply game to drunk chicks. It can only end badly unless you're a big deal on campus. Sitting through football math Freshman year of college I had to sit next to people who on a daily basis would be regailing me, and their friends about how they got so drunk at that party and woke up in bed next to Chaaaaad. Chad, I was not, and I'm guessing it's not you either.

My question is that, to be considered an 'alpha', must I be able to attend parties and such, where drinking is expected, and should I be drinking myself?

If it's a big deal, don't. I can't say I ever got shit for refusing to drink. More often than not it's interpreted as, 'more for me.'

Best advice I can give is to meet women within your major. You're not necessarily going to plate or date them- in some cases, depending on your degree I would flat out say, 'don't'- but they're going to be your in with other women.

This kind of situation is perfect to hone your idontgiveafuck skills. Learn to respond while not making up excuses and not acting butthurt. Convey that you just don't want to drink and you don't need to explain yourself. And when people challenge you on it, use it to your advantage depending on the situation. "Babe, are you trying to get me drunk to take advantage of me?"

Before a night out I literally have 2 glasses of wine, then buy a shot in the club and that's me for the night. By the end of the night, I'm pretty much sober, helps me a lot with game and taking girls back home, also if I drink too much I won't get hard, I missed out on some crazy sex cause of that so never again..
