I recently started college at a very large public university, and am within a very competitive engineering field. I am very hardworking and dedicated to getting good grades and networking to ensure financial stability and a solid career in the future, however feel that my preoccupation over school is becoming an unhealthy aspect of my life.

Since coming to college, I have rationalized not taking the time to do things like lifting (major problem) or pursuing other social opportunities to study and complete homework. Essentially, I feel that the anxiety and stress I have about succeeding and doing well academically has become too predominant of an influence within my life, and is causing me to neglect other areas of personal development.

Recently I have had midterms, so I have been studying excessive amounts, to the point where I am probably over studying for exams. On all of my exams so far I have received either A's or very high B+'s, yet am not content. I always feel like I could be better or do better and that my inability to do well (which is irrational because I am doing well) is going to fuck me over later in life.

My question is how can I mitigate the effects of this self limiting mindset as well as effectively balance academic priorities and other things such as lifting, social events, intermural sports, and other areas of interest? I know this is a very personalized question and the lack of knowledge about my life might make this question difficult to answer, but I would appreciate any insight this community may hold regarding my situation.

As a final note, I would also like to add that I do have anxiety and depression, which I feel contributes to this problem. In any case, I do not want my paranoia about failing to secure a job and succeed in life due t my performance in college to impact my life goals and the ability to improve myself.
